A method controls the access times of an optical disc end discs of the same. The method includes the following steps. First, an optical disc drive obtains the addresses of a life flag and a medium key block (MKB) by reading a private flag of an optical disc. The life flag and the MKB are used to control the access times of the optical disc. After confirming the addresses of the life flag and the MKB, the optical disc drive obtains an optical power signal to determine the power that should be used to read the MKB. When the optical disc drive uses the appropriate reading power to access the MKB, the recognizable number of access times in the 4KB data is reduced, and the medium key signal is extracted to be confirmed if it is recognizable to restate the main data.

The track-jump control system applied in an optical disc drive comprises a signal generator, a protection device, a velocity estimator, and a controller. The signal generator receives the signal from the PUH and generates a tracking signal and a position signal. The protection device receives the position signal and when the position signal represents the PUH pass a predetermined position of the optical disc, the protection device generates a protection signal. The velocity estimator estimates the velocity of the PUH according to the tracking signal, and then generates a velocity signal. The controller receives the velocity signal and the protection signal, protects the velocity signal according to the protection signal, and generates a control signal to control the track-jump according to the protected velocity signal.

A distributed biohazard surveillance system including a plurality of robust miniaturized remote monitoring stations for the detection, localized analysis and reporting of a broad range of biohazards. The remote monitoring station may be adapted to identify many different biological particles and is not limited to particular predetermined biohazard profiles. It is centrally and dynamically reconfigurable and can be adapted to operate unattended in a remote location. The distributed system may be used to locate and report unsuspected sources of biohazards and to monitor the localized effects in real-time cooperation with a centralized data processing facility.
