    Abstract: An electronic device displays a messaging user interface of a message application, including a conversation transcript of a messaging session between a user of the electronic device and at least one other user, a message-input area, the conversation transcript including a plurality of messages and a plurality of message regions, each message region containing a respective message of the plurality of messages. In response to a first input corresponding to a first respective message in the conversation transcript, displaying an indication that the first respective message has been selected. In response to one or more second inputs, including message composition inputs, displaying in a second message region in the conversation transcript a second message corresponding to the message composition inputs, and displaying a grouping indicia that connects the first respective message region with the second message region.

    Abstract: Application-level acknowledgements may be used to verify that a data packet has not only been received, but has been successfully processed by the appropriate application operating on a device that received the data packet. For example, in one embodiment, two devices may be registered with an identity service that enables security and push messaging. A first device may communicate a data packet to another device that is associated with the same identity account through the identity service. The device receiving the data packet may send an acknowledgement verifying receipt of the data packet. After an application has processed the data packet, an acknowledgement that the data packet was processed may also be send from the second device to the first device.

    Abstract: An electronic device displays a messaging user interface of a messaging application, including a conversation transcript of a messaging session between a user of the electronic device and at least one other user, and an application affordance. While displaying the messaging user interface, the device detects an input that activates the application affordance. In response to detecting the input that activates the application affordance, the device concurrently displays a launch icon for an application store and a plurality of launch icons for interactive applications. The device detects an input that activates the launch icon for the application store; in response to detecting the input that activates the launch icon for the application store: the device ceases to display the messaging user interface, and displays an application store user interface, including display of at least one interactive application available for download to the electronic device. While displaying the application store user interface, the device detects an input that corresponds to a request to download a first interactive application that is not stored in the memory of the electronic device; and, in response to detecting the input that corresponds to the request to download the first interactive application: the device downloads the first interactive application to the memory; replaces display of the application store user interface with display of the messaging user interface; and adds a launch icon that corresponds to the first interactive application to the display of the plurality of launch icons for interactive applications.

    Abstract: A system and method are described for establishing two-way communication between devices that have a certain set of hardware and/or capabilities allowing the devices to send and receive SMS/MMS messages using cellular networks on behalf of devices that lack the hardware and/or capabilities. A user's device lacking SMS/MMS capabilities queries an identity management service for device capabilities of other devices associated with the same user. The user's device lacking SMS/MMS capabilities can receive from the identity management service a device profile of each device associated with the user. The device profile can include one or more fields, flags, or indicators that specify or are otherwise indicative of hardware and/or software capabilities of a device. The user's device lacking SMS/MMS capabilities can select a device having SMS/MMS capabilities to act as a proxy based on a device's corresponding device profile that indicates that the device has SMS/MMS capabilities.
