For example, the method for increasing transmission distance and transmission data rate of a fiber optical communications link using tedons includes the steps of encoding a data signal to be transmitted using an encoding scheme that reduces a number of ones in the data signal, transmitting the encoded data signal over the fiber optical communications link, receiving the encoded data signal and decoding the encoded data signal.

摘要: A power equalization system and method for use in an optical transmission system are provided. The power equalization system includes an optical line including at least one transmission channel and a management line. The transmission system further includes a plurality of amplifiers, a plurality of Optical spectrum analyzers and a plurality of equalizers. The plurality of amplifiers are coupled to the optical line, spaced periodically throughout the optical transmission system. As information is sent through the optical transmission system, the plurality of amplifiers boost the power of each channel of the optical signal. A plurality of optical spectrum analyzers are also coupled to the optical line and are spaced periodically throughout the optical transmission system and are co-located with a first portion of the amplifiers coupled to the optical line. A plurality of equalizers are also coupled to the optical line and are spaced periodically throughout the optical transmission system and equalize the power on each channel of the optical line. The plurality of equalizers are co-located with a second portion of the plurality of amplifiers and at least one of the plurality of Optical spectrum analyzers is not co-located with one of the plurality of equalizers. As optical information is transmitted over the optical transmission system, the Optical spectrum analyzers provide analysis data via the management line to the non co-located equalizers for use by the equalizers in equalizing the power of the channels of the optical line at that point. The analysis data generated by the Optical spectrum analyzer identifies the analysis data at the point of the Optical spectrum analyzer which is not co-located with the equalizer.

摘要: A dispersion compensation system and method for use in an optical transmission system to compensate for signal distortion of an optical signal is provided. The dispersion compensation system includes a first and second transceivers for generating and receiving the optical signal respectively. An optical line couples the first transceiver to the second transceiver. A plurality of amplifiers are coupled to the optical line, spaced periodically throughout the optical line forming span distances, where the amplifiers amplify the optical signal and where the span differences are variable. A plurality of dispersion compensation modules are coupled to the plurality of amplifiers where the dispersion compensation models include a coarse granularity module having a resolution of at least 5 kilometers connected to a connector, the connector also connected to a fine granularity module having a resolution of one kilometer. The coarse and fine granularity modules connected through a single connector and the coarse granularity modules and the fine granularity modules correct the dispersion of the optical signal accumulated in the variable span distance. A memory is coupled to the dispersion compensators to provide information related to the value of the dispersion compensation.
