    摘要: An optical switch suitable for use in an add/drop of an optical network node having F>1 optical fiber per direction, the F fibers together carrying optical signals comprising up to N independent wavelength channels, is disclosed. The switch includes an Optical Cross-Connect (OXC) having F input ports and N output ports. F optical splitters are connected to the OXC, the input and output ports of the optical splitters defining ports of the OXC. The OXC is controllable to switch optical signals arriving at any of the F switch input ports to the input port of any of the F optical splitters such that each switch input port is switched to an optical splitter having at least as many splitter output ports as the number of independent wavelength channels received at the switch input port. A method for splitting optical signals is also disclosed.

    摘要: An upgradable optical router for use in an optical switching network. In an initial configuration, the optical router includes wavelength selective switches configured to switch optical signals having WDM wavelengths positioned in a grid having exactly 100 GHz (about 0.8 nm) spacing in optical frequency, aka fixed grid. The interface ports within the optical switch include an optical splitter and optical coupler and additionally space for a second selective switch. At a later point in time, a second wavelength selective switch can be added to provide additional capabilities such as switching wavelengths positioned in a flexible grid.

    摘要: An optical switch having multiple input and output ports directs any number of WDM signals, each arriving at a respective input port, to any one of the output ports. The optical switch includes an array of LC pixels, each positioned to receive a WDM signal transmitted through one of the ports, and an array of reflective elements, each associated with one of the LC pixels. The LC pixels are controlled to cause a WDM signal incident thereon to attain an attenuation state while an output of the WDM signal is being switched by an associated reflective element, such that when an output for a WDM signal is switched from a first port to a second port, the switching can be performed in a hitless manner.

    摘要: A transmission-path-type specifying apparatus includes an optical filter that extracts a plurality of different wavelength components from light including wavelength components occurring at the time of communication; an optical switch that simultaneously transmits same pulse signals superposed on light of the extracted wavelength components. The apparatus also includes an ASE modulation controlling unit that obtains a delay-time difference among the transmitted pulse signals when arriving at a destination via a transmission path; a characteristic-value calculating unit that calculates a characteristic value of the transmission path corresponding to a reference time varied depending on the obtained delay-time difference and a type of the transmission path; and a fiber-type determining unit that specifies the type of the transmission path based on the calculated characteristic value.
