Abstract: The disclosed technology relates to a looped tab for a battery cell. The looped tab may extend from a set of layers. The looped tab may comprise a first portion adjacent to the set of layers and a second portion adjacent to an inner sidewall of the enclosure. The first portion may comprise a covered portion, the covered portion comprising a metal surface and an oxide coating covering the metal surface, the oxide coating configured to prevent contact between a layer in the set of layers or the enclosure and the metal surface of the covered portion.

Abstract: A battery pre-lithiation assembly includes an anode having first holes and a cathode having second holes. The first holes and the second holes are configured to enable an electrolyte to pass therethrough. Further, the first holes and the second holes are configured to enable movement of Li+ ions associated with the lithium metal during a pre-lithiation process. The lithium metal may be coated on the anode (e.g., on active material of the anode), or the lithium metal may correspond to at least one lithium metal electrode, such as first and second lithium metal electrodes disposed on opposing sides of an electrode stack (e.g., a jelly roll) including the anode, the cathode, and a separator.

Abstract: Battery packs having jelly roll battery cells of different capacities may have an imbalance in the charging and/or discharging current supplied to and provided by each jelly roll due to differences in capacity specific impedance between the battery cells of the battery pack. A C-rate (i.e., current relative to rated capacity) of a lower capacity first battery cell and a higher capacity second battery cell connected in parallel may be balanced by repositioning and/or increasing the number of cathode tabs and anode tabs of the second jelly roll battery cell to reduce an impedance of the second battery cell.

Abstract: A battery system includes a battery cell, a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) that cools the battery cell, a temperature sensor that detects a temperature of the battery cell, and a battery management unit (BMU) controller. The BMU controller activates the TEC to cool the battery cell in response to determining that a state of charge (SOC) of the battery cell is greater than a threshold SOC and the temperature of the battery cell is greater than a threshold temperature.

Abstract: Batteries according to embodiments of the present technology may include an enclosure. The batteries may include an electrode stack including a separator positioned between an anode and a cathode. The electrode stack may be characterized by a first side from which a plurality of electrode tabs extend, a second side opposite the first, a third side, and a fourth side opposite the third. The batteries may also include a wrapping seated on a first surface of the electrode stack and extending beyond an edge of each of the second, the third, and the fourth sides of the electrode stack a distance equal to or greater than a thickness of the electrode stack. The wrapping may be adhered to a second surface of the electrode stack opposite the first surface of the electrode stack on each of the second side, the third side, and the fourth side of the electrode stack.
