摘要: The document reading system passively analyzes a document to generate margin or end notes of references to other documents that relate to annotated passages in the document or to the entire document. The invention is responsive to the annotation of a document to passively generate a query that retrieves documents that have similar content to the annotated passage. The retrieved documents are available to the reader through selectable links placed in the margin near the annotation. Additionally, the invention provides end notes with links to documents that are similar in content to the overall content of the annotated document. The invention assists the reader by passively generating selectable links to related documents to assist the user in relating the new document to previously read material.

摘要: An electronic document reader supplements a new document with selectable links that reference portions of previously read documents that have content similar to a passage of the new document. The portions of the previously read documents may be previously identified and stored in a memory to expedite processing. The portions of previously read documents are identified by annotations or explicitly by a user. The identified portions are indexed, clustered and are used as proxies for topics. This invention segments a new document into passages and matches the passages to the stored topics based on the similarity of the content. The topics that exceed a content similarity threshold cause corresponding selectable links to be displayed in the display of the new document near the corresponding passage. The user of this invention can then choose to follow the selectable link to learn more about the topic of the corresponding segment. In this manner, this invention aids a reader in connecting material in the new document with material in previously read documents.

摘要: In general, techniques and systems for controlling a parameter of a target device are described. In one example, a method includes obtaining, by a computing device, control information from an identification device that is associated with a target device, wherein the control information identifies the target device and a parameter that at least partially defines operation of the target device. The method may also include detecting, by at least one sensor of the computing device, physical movement of the computing device subsequent to obtaining the control information and transmitting the control information and movement information to a networked device configured to adjust a value of the parameter of the target device based at least in part on a function of the movement information. The movement information may include information that indicates the detected physical movement.

摘要: A method comprising determining that a phone call has been answered, missed, or terminated, generating an indication of the phone call being answered, missed, or terminated at a graphical user interface, and determining one or more contextual identifiers associated with the phone call. The contextual identifiers may include metadata associated with the phone call, and may be based on data associated with at least one of data generated indications and data received by the computing device from a first input at the graphical user interface associated with the computing device. The method further includes storing the contextual identifiers in association with the indication of the phone call in a data structure that includes other contextual identifiers associated with other indications of phone calls. The contextual identifiers and the other contextual identifiers included in the data structure are searchable.

摘要: In general, techniques and systems for defining a gesture with a computing device using short-range communication are described. In one example, a method includes obtaining position information from an array of position devices using near-field communication (NFC) during a movement of the computing device with respect to the array, wherein the position information identifies unique positions within the array for each position device from which position information was obtained. The method may also include determining sequence information associated with the position information, wherein the sequence information is representative of an order in which the position information was obtained from each position device, and performing, by the computing device, an action based at least in part on the position information and the sequence information, wherein the position information and the sequence information are representative of a gesture input associated with the movement of the computing device.

摘要: Passages in a digital corpus are scored and ranked based at least in part on characteristics of instances of the passages occurring in the corpus. Such characteristics include the popularity of the author, the characteristics of the words introducing and following the similar passage, frequency of appearance of the passage in the digital corpus, the length of the similar passage, the words of the similar passage, the usage of punctuation with the similar passage, and the diffusion of the similar passage within the digital corpus. The characteristics are scored and weighted to produce ranking scores for the associated passages. The ranking scores are used for purposes including selecting passages to display in association with a document and ranking passages displayed in response to a search.

摘要: A document storage management system and method that manages the storage of documents based upon the similarity of the content of the documents. Groups of documents are created based upon the similarity of the contents of the documents. Those groups are displayed to the user in a ranked list of selectable groups to permit selection of a group or document. The storage of the selected group or document is then managed by, for example, deleting, compressing, or copying. The displayed list may be ranked based upon a least recently used policy, the relevance to a predetermined topic, the size of the group, the radius of the group based upon the maximum distance of any document from the group centroid, the number of documents in the group and any other combination of parameters.

摘要: A document organizing system extracts annotations made to a document along with the context surrounding each annotation and organizes the annotations based upon the annotation attributes and/or context. The annotations are created by grouping marks based upon their proximity in time and space. The document is segmented to determine a minimum context associated with each annotation. A list of the annotations sorted by the attributes are then displayed to the user. The context provided by the invention for each annotation allows the user to fully understand the annotation.
