The subject of the invention is a process for the preparation of 2-(perfluoroalkyl)ethanethiols R.sub.f CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 SH, R.sub.f denoting a straight-chain or branched perfluoroalkyl radical containing from 2 to 20 carbon atoms.
