    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided by which a radio controller, also called a radio intelligence controller (RIC), is configured as a platform that hosts one or more third party applications. The radio controller platform provides the applications with access to radio access network (RAN) information and a command interface. An application programming interface is defined between the applications and the radio controller. The radio controller collects information from the RAN node and makes that information available to the applications. The applications also provide input information to the radio controller, such as in the form of a commands or a radio controller policy. The radio controller policy rules from the applications are executed by the radio controller or direct the radio controller to query one of the applications for an instruction.

    Abstract: In one embodiment a method includes adjusting a handoff threshold for a cell associated with a mobile communication cell controller, where the handoff threshold indicates a threshold according to which mobile communication devices using a primary radio access technology (RAT) in the cell are handed off by the cell controller to a secondary cell controller using a secondary RAT, monitoring at least one performance indicator associated with communication performance in the cell, if the performance indicator is below a lower performance threshold, reversing the adjusting, otherwise, if the performance indicator is below an upper performance threshold, performing corrective action for targeted mobile communication devices whose associated performance is between the upper and lower performance thresholds as per the monitoring, the corrective action including increasing power for connections associated with the targeted mobile communication devices, and handing off to the secondary RAT controller devices whose performance is below the handoff threshold.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for optimizing tracking areas for user equipments (UEs) is implemented in a mobile network and includes: defining network slices as a function of UE types, where UEs in the mobile network are associated with the network slices according to the UE types, defining network slice specific tracking areas as groups of one or more mobile base stations according to the network slices; receiving a signal from a given UE from among the UEs at a receiving mobile base station from among the one or more mobile base stations, and paging the given UE in a network slice specific tracking area from among the network slice specific tracking areas, where the receiving mobile base station is in the network slice specific tracking area, and the given UE is associated with the network slice specific tracking area according to an associated UE type from among the UE types.

    Abstract: A Centralized Self Organizing Network (C-SON) automation platform for managing a backhaul infrastructure in a telecommunication network. The C-SON automation platform monitors one or more backhaul utilization performance indicators corresponding to a backhaul infrastructure, which infrastructure transports data between one or more User Equipment (UE) connected to a small cell and a data network. The C-SON further receives subscriber data for at least one User Equipment (UE) and location data for the at least one UE from at least one Network Function (NF), and maps the at least one UE to a backhaul service flow and the small cell based on the subscriber data and the location data. The C-SON automation platform determines the backhaul utilization performance indicator exceeds a backhaul threshold limit for the backhaul service flow, and adjusts a bandwidth utilization of the backhaul infrastructure based on the backhaul utilization parameter exceeding the backhaul threshold limit.

    Abstract: A radio controller entity is in communication with a centralized control plane entity of a disaggregated base station, or with a monolithic base station, the disaggregated base station or monolithic base station serving wireless user equipment in a wireless network. The radio controller entity obtains from the centralized control plane entity or from the monolithic base station, a context associated with one or more user equipment served by the disaggregated base station or the monolithic base station. The radio controller entity determines a policy to be set. The policy defines a set of one or more rules, each rule including a condition and an action. The rule may include that the base station should query the radio controller for an instruction as to which action(s) to apply. The radio controller entity provides the policy to the centralized control plane entity or to the monolithic base station.
