    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for network communications to reduce optical beat interference (OBI) in upstream communications are described. For example, a fiber node may provide a seed source to injection lock upstream laser diodes. Therefore, upstream communications from each injection locked laser diode may primarily include the wavelength associated with each seed source. The seed sources may be unique to each end device and configured to minimize OBI. That is, the upstream laser diodes may be generic, but the collected seed source may enable upstream communications at varying wavelengths. The end device may provide upstream communications by externally modulating a signal generated by the injection locked laser diode.

    Abstract: A baseband processing unit includes a baseband processor configured to receive a plurality of component carriers of a radio access technology wireless service, and a delta-sigma digitization interface configured to digitize at least one carrier signal of the plurality of component carriers into a digitized bit stream, for transport over a transport medium, by (i) oversampling the at least one carrier signal, (ii) quantizing the oversampled carrier signal into the digitized bit stream using two or fewer quantization bits.

    Abstract: An optical access network includes an optical hub having at least one processor, and a plurality of optical fiber strands. Each optical fiber strand has a first strand end connected to the optical hub. The network further includes a plurality of nodes connected to at least one segment of a first fiber strand of the plurality of optical fiber strands. Each node is sequentially disposed at respective locations along the first fiber strand at different differences from the optical hub, respectively. The network further includes a plurality of end-points. Each end-point includes a receiver. Each respective receiver (i) has a different optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) from the other receivers, (ii) is operably coupled with at least one node of the plurality of nodes, and (iii) is configured to receive the same optical wavelength signal from the first fiber strand as received by the other receivers.

    Abstract: A passive optical tap includes a first wavelength division multiplexer (WDM), a second WDM, a first optical splitter, and a second optical splitter. The first wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) has a first plurality of single-channel ports. The second WDM has a second plurality of single-channel ports. The first optical splitter has a first combined-power port optically coupled to a first one of the first plurality of single-channel ports and a first split-power port optically coupled to a first one of the second plurality of single-channel ports. The second optical splitter has a second combined-power port optically coupled to a second one of the second plurality of single-channel ports and a second split-power port optically coupled to a second one of the first plurality of single-channel ports.
