摘要: A system for defibrillating an atrial region of a heart experiencing a supraventricular arrhytmia. The defibrillation system senses and analyzes both atrial and ventricular cardiac signals of the heart to determine if the heart is experiencing a supraventricular arrhythmia. Upon detecting a supraventricular arrhythmia, the defibrillation system begins delivering a train of atrial pacing pulses to the atria of the heart and a series of ventricular pacing pulses to the ventricles of the heart to synchronize the contractions of the heart with the pacing pulses. The defibrillation system then delivers a defibrillation electrical energy pulse across the atrial region at a predetermined coupling interval time after delivering a final atrial pacing pulse and a final ventricular pacing pulse so that the defibrillation pulse will fall outside the occurrence of a T-wave of the heart, thus reducing the likelihood of inducing ventricular fibrillation.

摘要: A system for validating network communication, such as e-mail. A person sending information to a previously unverified recipient first enters “Address Book” information about the unverified recipient into the sender's e-mail system. Part of this initial information includes the recipient's e-mail address and a way of communicating with the intended recipient other than by using the e-mail address. For example, regular mail, fax, or other means can be specified. When the sender sends the information to the intended recipient, the recipient is not able to receive the information until an identification code is entered by the intended recipient. The identification code is transferred via the different way of communicating that does not use the intended recipient's e-mail address. For example, the code can be sent via fax. The intended recipient then logs on to the e-mail system and enters their user name and the code. When the recipient logs on for the first time and enters the QAN, the recipient's e-mail account is associated with the sender's entry for that intended user in the sender's private address book. Provision is also made for a representative of the recipient, as opposed to the actual recipient, to perform the logon and receive the information. As part of the logon process, the person logging in is asked to attest that they are the intended recipient or a representative of the intended recipient. The initial logging on of the intended recipient, or the intended recipient's representative, generates an automatic fax to the intended recipient's fax number. This is the same fax number as used to convey the QAN to the intended recipient. This fax upon login acts to defeat any attempt by an outside party to intercept and use the QAN to log on and impersonate the intended recipient. The fax verification upon login is repeated for the first 5 to 10 documents sent by e-mail to recipients who are new users of the system.

摘要: A method and system for verifying the integrity of normal sinus rhythm (NSR) templates and updating the NSR template after selected time intervals. At selected time intervals after establishing a NSR template, cardiac complexes are sensed and values for one or more cardiac parameters are measured. The values of the cardiac parameters are compared to predetermined value ranges for NSR cardiac complexes. When the values of the cardiac parameters fall within the predetermined value ranges, values for the differences between the values of the cardiac parameters for the cardiac complexes and the values for the cardiac parameters of the NSR cardiac complexes are calculated. When the values of the differences are greater than one or more threshold values, the NSR template is updated as a function of the sensed cardiac complexes.

摘要: The present invention provides a system and a method for discriminating supraventricular tachyarrhythmias from ventricular arrhythmias during a tachycardia episode. First cardiac signals and second cardiac signals are sampled for cardiac complexes. A first feature on the first cardiac signal and a second feature on the second cardiac signal are utilized to determine an average time difference for a plurality of normal sinus rhythm complexes. A time difference between the first feature and the second feature is then determined for each cardiac complex of a tachycardiac rhythm. The cardiac complex is characterized as a ventricular tachycardia complex if the time difference exceeds the average time difference by a predetermined amount. Otherwise, it is classified as VT if its morphology after alignment is different from that during normal sinus rhythm.

摘要: A medical device system and method of plotting symbols representing complexes of selected arrhythmic events on an interactive display screen, for organizing, displaying and interacting with a patient's recorded arrhythmia episodes. Stored arrhythmic episode are selected from a plurality of arrhythmic episodes, where the stored arrhythmic episode having a plurality of complexes. A similarity value and a dissimilarity value is calculated for each complex of the plurality of complexes of the selected arrhythmic episode with respect to normal sinus rhythm complexes. Symbols representing the arrhythmic complexes are then plotted as a function of the calculated similarity values and the dissimilarity values on an interactive display screen. Additional information relating to the arrhythmic event is elicited through interacting with the symbols displayed on the interactive display screen.

摘要: A method and system for discriminating atrial and ventricular signal components from a single heart lead, and for using this information for identifying an arrhythmia condition as being atrial or ventricular in origin. The invention is effective in identifying P waves occurring in complex signal which includes relatively stronger R waves or other ventricular artifacts which mask the P waves. The contribution of the R wave signal to the complex signal is obtained by filtering, time windowing and transfer function estimation, then the R wave estimate is subtracted from the combined signal to leave the P wave. The ratio of P waves to R waves, P-P and R-R intervals, and their ratios to one another and to fixed values can be estimated, and used in a comparison to discriminate between atrial and ventricular arrhythmia, to thereby enable appropriate treatment.
