    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a fiber optic connector for use with a fiber optic adapter. The fiber optic connector includes a connector housing having an end defining a plug portion. A ferrule assembly is mounted at least partially within the connector housing. The ferrule assembly includes a ferrule located at the plug portion of the connector housing. A sealing member is mounted about an exterior of the connector housing for providing a seal between the connector housing and the adapter. The fiber optic connector further includes first and second separate retaining mechanism for retaining the fiber optic connector within the fiber optic adapter.

The factory terminated subassembly has a small transverse cross-section to facilitate routing through a duct. The connector system also includes a field installable subassembly including various connector components that can be installed after the factory terminated subassembly has been routed through a duct.     Abstract: An optical fiber testing device (300) being plugged into a port at which optical signals including communication and test signals within different wavelength bands being received, comprises an optical connector (304) including a plug body surrounding a ferrule holding an optical fiber (301) and a reflector component (326) carried with the optical connector (304). The reflector component (326) is optically coupled to the rear of the optical fiber and reflects the test signal. A method for testing an optical fiber, comprises removably securing a reusable ruggedized optical fiber testing device to a ruggedized port of an optical fiber terminal to optically couple to an optical fiber under test, transmitting a test signal over the optical fiber under test, and using the reflector component to return the test signal over the optical fiber under test when receiving the test signal.

    Abstract: A fiber-optic connector ferrule body (10) that includes a depth that extends from a front end (12) to a rear end (14) of the ferrule. The ferrule includes a contact face (16) at the front end of the ferrule. The contact face includes a major dimension that extends along a major axis (X) defined by the contact face and a minor dimension that extends along a minor axis (Y) defined by the contact face. The major and minor axes are perpendicular to one another. The ferrule also defines alignment pin receivers (18) that extend rearwardly from the front end of the ferrule. The alignment pin receivers have tight-fit sections (26) that extend into the ferrule body from the contact face and flex sections (28) that extend from the first transverse cross-sectional shape to the rear end. The first and second transverse cross-sectional profiles define a degree of rotational flexibility between alignment pins (24) received in the alignment pin receivers (18) and the ferrule body (10).

    Abstract: A fiber optic and electrical connection system includes a fiber optic cable, a ruggedized fiber optic connector, a ruggedized fiber optic adapter, and a fiber optic enclosure. The cable includes one or more electrically conducting strength members. The connector, the adapter, and the enclosure each have one or more electrical conductors. The cable is terminated by the connector with the conductors of the connector in electrical communication with the strength members. The conductors of the connector electrically contact the conductors of the adapter when the connector and the adapter are mechanically connected. And, the conductors of the adapter electrically contact the conductors of the enclosure when the adapter is mounted on the enclosure.
