    Abstract: A filter arrangement for threadably securing to a filter head includes a housing having a surrounding wall defining an interior volume, an open mouth providing access to the interior volume and an end opposite of the open mouth. The surrounding wall has an exterior and an interior. A filter media construction is operably held within the interior volume. A sleeve, distinct from the housing, is secured to the exterior of the surrounding wall adjacent to the housing mouth and extending partially along the surrounding wall. The sleeve has an exterior and an interior. The exterior of the sleeve defines mounting threads constructed and arranged to removably mount with the filter head, when the filter arrangement is secured to the filter head. The interior of the sleeve is against the exterior of the surrounding wall. A first seal member is oriented against the sleeve to create a seal with a filter head, when the filter arrangement is secured to the filter head. A filter assembly includes a filter arrangement and a filter head. The filter arrangement is removably secured to the filter head by a threaded connection between the sleeve and the filter head. A system includes an engine utilizing a liquid and a filter assembly in fluid communication with the engine to filter the liquid. Methods of making filter arrangements include utilizing structures characterized above.

    Abstract: A spin-on filter cartridge includes a housing, a filter element operably oriented in the housing, a baffle plate, and a seal arrangement. The baffle plate is operably oriented over the housing open end and defines a central flow aperture. The baffle plate also defines a continuous groove immediately adjacent to and circumscribing the central flow aperture. The seal arrangement is secured to the baffle plate and spaced from and circumscribing the continuous groove. A filter assembly including the spin-on filter cartridge and a filter head is also disclosed wherein the filter cartridge is removably mountable on the filter head. When the spin-on filter cartridge is oriented on the filter head, a seal member is received within the continuous groove and the seal arrangement forms a seal between and against the baffle plate and the filter head. The seal can be radial or axial or have both axial and radial components.

    Abstract: A filter cartridge includes a key ring with at least first and second protrusions to engage a lock-out assembly in a filter head, permitting the cartridge to connect to the filter head. A filter system includes a filter assembly, including a filter cartridge and a cartridge housing, connected to a filter head, in which the filter head includes an adapter assembly with a lock-out mechanism. The lock-out mechanism is unlocked by a key ring on the filter cartridge. A method of installing a filter assembly includes using protrusions on a key ring on a filter cartridge to unlock an adapter assembly in a filter head to allow for connection between the filter assembly and the filter head.

    Abstract: A filter cartridge 38 includes a first endcap 41 defining a first open aperture and having at least first and second protrusions extending from a wall along the aperture and into the first open aperture. The first protrusion is spaced from the second protrusion in both a vertical direction and a circumferential direction. The filter cartridge also includes filter media 44 and a second endcap 42 . The filter cartridge is mountable in a filter bowl 36 having an inner liner assembly, and the bowl and the inner liner assembly is connectable to a filter head to form a filter system. The filter system can have any one or combination of the following features: a filter lock-out mechanism to ensure that the filter head and the filter bowl are not connectable unless there is a proper filter cartridge installed therein; an automatic drain mechanism to drain the filter bowl of liquid before the filter cartridge is removed from the bowl; and a cartridge retention mechanism, to ensure that the filter cartridge remains with the filter bowl after the filter bowl has been removed from the filter head. Adaptor rings can be utilized in order to test other types of filter elements in the system, when those other types of filter elements do not have the protrusion arrangement. Assemblies, methods of servicing, methods of installing, methods of use, and methods of retaining can be practiced.
