摘要: An implantable drug delivery system includes a housing having a base end and a discharge end, for holding drug solution at the discharge end, a valve disposed at the discharge end to allow a drug solution to flow from inside the housing, through the valve and out of the housing when solution pressure is applied to the valve, a piston slidably disposed in the housing to slide between the base end and discharge end to force solution toward the discharge end and out the valve, and a spring disposed in the housing between the piston and the base end thereof for urging the piston toward the discharge end. A plurality of different length tethers are connected at one end to the piston and at the other end to a respective release node located at the base end of the housing. Each release node holds the other end of a respective one of the tethers until a release signal is received at which time it releases the tether. A timing circuit is disposed in the housing at the base end to supply release signals sequentially to the nodes in order of the shortest tether node to the longest tether node so that as a tether is released, the piston is allowed to move toward the discharge end of the housing to thereby discharge or bolus of drug solution from the housing, until the next shortest unreleased tether stops further movement of the piston.

摘要: A reversibly attachable fastener has a generally figure-8 geometry when in the engaged state. The fastener is composed of two generally symmetric halves, each comprising arm portions, shoulder portions, and head portions, and the halves are connected by a spring loop. One half of the fastener contains a window feature that allows the opposing, singular half to extend through and be supported in a nested fashion. The half containing the window feature has crown protrusions on the head portions which are then spanned by a bridge structure. The opposing, singular half is provided with a crown protrusion which is notched, this crown protrusion catching on the bridge structure to maintain the fastener in the engaged state. The fastener can be used to easily and reversibly attach various objects, such as keys to keyrings or identification tags to luggage.

摘要: A cell culture apparatus consists of a vessel or array of vessels, each comprising a substantially flat bottom and substantially vertical sides, and composed of a substantially gas permeable material. The inner bottom surface of the vessel is commonly textured to provide the cells with adequate features for attachment and spreading. The vessel may include an integral annular flange which can be used to suspend the vessel from a suspensory element of a rack structure. To promote cell attachment and growth, the inner surfaces of the vessel bottom and sides may be coated with commonly available bio-active materials. Cells cultured in the system commonly grow in three dimensions for extended periods of time, and often produce significantly higher quantities of cellular products than cells grown in conventional labware.

摘要: Massage device (10) comprising head (12), which 76 defines cavity (8) and an opening to cavity (8). Head (12) has one or more contact surfaces and post (32) connected to head (12). Post (32) is positioned within cavity (8) and extends toward the opening. Post (32) also has one or more contact surfaces. Vacuum source (49) communicating with cavity (8) provides a means for creating negative pressure with cavity (8). Additionally, a method and system for performing abrasion on a surface, such as on the skin 74 of a patient, is disclosed. The dermabrasion apparatus includes means for delivering and retrieving material to and from a selected site to be abraded, a delivery and retrieval hand piece, an abrasive handling device, and a waste retrieval holding device. Hand piece (118) is coupled to the abrasive handling device as well as the waste retrieval holding device, which is further coupled to the delivery and retrieval means.

摘要: A protective cover for the bristle portion (10) of a toothbrush (12) is adapted for disposability and reduced bulkiness. The cover is composed of two pieces of flexible, waterproof material (14, 14') which have been bonded along the top edge (16) and lateral edges (18, 20) to form a pouch-like container. The remaining lateral edges (26, 26') are supplied with rib-and-groove closure profiles (32, 34) to provide for ease of insertion and resealability. The bottom edges (22, 22') are unbonded to allow the toothbrush handle (24) to project externally. Alternately, an adhesive strip closure (72) may be used in place of rib-and-groove closure profiles (32, 34). The toothbrush cover may be produced rapidly and inexpensively to allow for disposal after a usage period of up to ten days, thereby reducing the probability of microbial colonization.
