Abstract: Compounds having the formula (F-I) below are provided herein: wherein R1 and R2 at each occurrence are independently a C1-C5000 alkyl group; R3 at each occurrence is independently hydrogen or a C1-C5000 alkyl group; R4 is a C1-C50 alkyl group or an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl group; R5 at each occurrence is independently hydrogen or a C1-C30 alkyl group; n is 1, 2, 3, or 4; and m+n is 5. Abstract: A lubricant composition comprising a high-viscosity PAO lubricant base stock having a KV100 of at least 200 cSt and comprising multiple PAO molecules comprising at least 200 carbon atoms per molecule, wherein (i) each of the PAO molecules comprises multiple pendant groups; (i) the average pendant group length of all the pendant groups excluding one methyl on each of the PAO molecules among at least 90 mol % of all of the PAO molecules, if one or more methyl is present, is at least 6.0, and (iii) the concentration of the high-viscosity PAO base stock is no more than 75 wt % of the total weight of the lubricant composition. The lubricant composition exhibits provides a high degree of protection of gear surfaces as measured by ASTM D5182.

Abstract: Alkylated naphthalene compositions are usually formed by reacting naphthalene with an electrophilic agent under acid-catalyzed conditions to afford a mixture of monoalkylated naphthalenes, dialkylated naphthalenes, and sometimes polyalkylated naphthalenes. Reaction conditions are usually chosen to change the product distribution for purposes of modifying lubricant properties such as viscosity or volatility. Rarely does the product distribution exceed 90 wt. % monoalkylated naphthalenes. Viscosity and volatility may alternately be modified by obtaining a first fraction enriched in monoalkylated naphthalenes and a second fraction enriched in dialkylated naphthalenes and combining the first fraction and the second fraction in a specified ratio to produce a modified alkylated naphthalene composition having a targeted value of one of the viscosity or the volatility. The first fraction and the second fraction may be obtained by fractional distillation of a first alkylated naphthalene composition to afford an overhead fraction and a bottoms fraction.

Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricant base stock blend comprising a PAO base stock and an alkylated aromatics (AA) base stock, wherein at least the longer portion of the pendant groups attached to the carbon backbones of the PAO molecules have comparable length to at least the longer portion of the side chain groups attached to the aromatic ring structure of the AA molecules. The comparable lengths of at least the longer portion of the pendant groups and the side chain groups lead to enhanced improvement in oxidation stability of the blend.
