摘要: A lubricating composition includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and a low-ash additive system including a low molecular weight amine with a Total Base Number of at least 150, and an N-substituted hydrocarbyl-substituted succinimide dispersant. The low-ash additive system provides the lubricating composition with a significant boost in TBN without substantially lowering the flashpoint. The composition is particularly suited to use as a marine diesel engine lubricant.

The resulting Group I base stocks can have a viscosity at 100° C. and/or a viscosity at 40° C. that is greater than the corresponding viscosity for a conventional Group I bright stock formed by solvent processing. Additionally, the resulting Group I base stocks can have one or more properties that are indicative of a high quality base stock.

摘要: A method for improving wear control and sludge control, while maintaining or improving fuel efficiency, of a lubricating oil in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with the lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and at least one lubricating oil additive, as a minor component. The at least one lubricating oil additive includes a zirconium-containing compound. The zirconium-containing compound is present in an amount from about 0.1 to about 1200 parts per million (ppm). The zirconium-containing compound is soluble in the lubricating oil base stock. The lubricating oil is useful as a passenger vehicle engine oil (PVEO), a commercial vehicle engine oil (CVEO), and other lubricating oils (hydraulic, gear, transmission, etc.).

In certain aspects, the present invention is generally directed to boroxine compounds having alkyl groups where one or more of the alkyl groups contains at least 8 carbon atoms. Such compounds may present improved hydrolytic stability, compared to other boroxine compounds. Such boroxine compounds may be used, for example, to improve seal compatibility in an engine. Other aspects of the invention are generally directed to systems and methods for making such boroxine compounds, engine oils containing such boroxine compounds, methods of using such boroxine compounds, or the like.

摘要: Lubricant compositions comprising an improved ashless organic friction modifier additive have been found to be capable of reducing both friction and wear. It has been found that mixtures of fatty-alkanolamides containing secondary hydroxyls on the amino alkyl substituent, such as amide mixtures prepared from bis(2-hydroxypropyl)amine and mixtures of at least two different C8-24 fatty acids, provide better oil solubility and friction reduction than alkanolamides with primary, hydroxyl functionality, such as amide mixtures prepared from di-ethanol)amine.

摘要: The engine lubricating system can become contaminated with carbon deposits and sludge. Sludge is where the combustion by-products that have entered the oil base saturate this oil base, thus forming a thick carbon rich substance. Sludge is not wanted within the engine. Sludge and or carbon deposits in the motor oil cause problems. Such carbon deposits form in the motor oil from heat, pressure, and namely combustion gases that have leaked pasted the piston rings. Turpentine and terpenes, hereafter referred to as “terpenes”, have shown that these chemicals can breakdown carbon which has been deposited within the engine's oil base.

摘要: A PAO lubricant base stock having a KV100 of at least 200 cSt and comprising multiple PAO molecules comprising at least 200 carbon atoms per molecule, wherein each of the PAO molecules comprises multiple pendant groups; and the average pendant group length of all the pendant groups excluding one methyl on each of the PAO molecules among at least 90 mol % of all of the PAO molecules, if one or more methyl is present, is at least 6.0. The PAO base stock exhibits high EHL thicknesses at 40° C., 80° C., and 120° C., rendering it particularly useful in lubricant compositions experiencing high-stress events such as gear oils, automotive transmission oils, and the like.

摘要: The invention has an object of providing ethylene/α-olefin copolymers having high randomness and a small number of double bonds in the copolymers. The ethylene/α-olefin copolymers of the invention are obtained by copolymerizing ethylene and an α-olefin having 3 to 20 carbon atoms in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst which includes a bridged metallocene compound (A) represented by the formula [I], and at least one compound (B) selected from organometallic compounds (B-1), organoaluminum oxy compounds (B-2) and compounds (B-3) capable of reacting with the bridged metallocene compound (A) to form an ion pair, and have a specific weight average molecular weight, a specific molecular weight distribution, a specific glass transition point and a specific value B.
