Abstract: A method to provide a custom interstitial transition video includes identify a base media item comprising a display area to be customized for a user of a client device to provide a transition between a first video to be played on the client device and a plurality of second videos playable on the client device after the first video, causing the first video to be played on a screen of the client device, causing the display area of the base media item to be automatically customized to transform the base media item into a custom transition media item that presents information about each of the plurality of second videos playable after the first video, and causing the base media item with the customized display area to be presented on the screen of the client device before playing any of the plurality of second videos, wherein the customized display area is overlaid with metadata content items of the plurality of media content items each comprising information about the respective one of the plurality of second videos.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for presenting contextual information in connection with media content are provided. In some embodiments, the method comprises: causing a media content item to be presented on a user device; receiving, at a first time point from a user of the user device, a user input to display one or more contextual interfaces that present information related to the media content item; identifying a plurality of contextual interfaces based on content included in the media content item at the first time point; causing the media content item to be presented in a first portion of a display of the user device and causing a first contextual interface from the plurality of contextual interfaces to be presented in a second portion of the display of the user device; identifying, at a second time point, an update to the first contextual interface based on content included in the media content item at the second time point; and modifying the first contextual interface based on the update identified at the second time point.

Abstract: Metadata for a plurality of media content items is received. The metadata identifies a thumbnail representation of each of the plurality of media content items. The plurality of media content items are displayed in an overview area in an electronic program guide (EPG) in a user interface. The overview area comprises a plurality of cells aligned in one or more rows. The plurality of cells comprise a subset of the metadata for a respective media content item. An input of a selection of one of the plurality of media content items displayed at the EPG in the user interface is received. The selected media content item is displayed in a focus area in the EPG. The focus area comprises a rectangular area that is located near the overview area. The focus area comprises expanded metadata of the selected media content item for presentation in the focus area.

Abstract: A device receives a base video that includes an area in frames of the base video reserved for being overlaid with metadata. The device determines a first set of videos to be played next for a particular user. A selection of the first set of videos is based on a second set of videos associated with the particular user. The device receives metadata for the first set of videos and populates an executable presentation template for the base video with a set of extracted metadata. The device plays the base video and synchronizes execution of the populated presentation template with the playing of the base video to overlay the reserved area of the frames with the set of metadata to create a custom interstitial transition video that informs the particular user about the videos to be played next.
