Abstract: In a process for injecting a radioactive sample of a substance into a reaction vessel, the sample is first enclosed in a first container in which it is irradiated, and then the first container with sample is placed in a second container which is separated from the reaction vessel by way of a closed valve. The second container is heated, and the sample is then conveyed out of the containers into the reaction vessel through the valve which is opened. The sample is enclosed within the first container by plugs or is frozen therein for which purpose the first container may possibly by put into intermediate storage in a storage container. An apparatus comprises the first container for receiving the sample, to be arranged and fixed within the second heatable pressure-resistant container which can be communicated with the reaction vessel through a valve.

Abstract: In order to improve the handling capability of red mud, it is mixed with fine-grain coal material such as brown coal or lignite in dust form, in a ratio by weight of between 0.5-10:1. The liquid present in the red mud is bound by the very fine coal admixed therewith so that the resulting mixture can be stored in a silo and even pneumatically conveyed, and the oily properties of the red mud are removed by the treatment. The mixture is particularly suitable for use in connection with the hydrogenating liquefaction of coal in which the red mud is used as a catalyst.

Abstract: Treatment of water for selective and quantitative removal of all cations of the transition elements, with simultaneous adjustment of a definite mole ratio of calcium, magnesium, and the alkali metals, with a cation exchanger which, towards the ions of the I. transition elements, II. alkaline earth metals, III. alkali metals, shows a markedly gradually decreasing affinity from I. to III.; and which cation exchanger is loaded with calcium and magnesium ions in a predetermined mole ratio, or with hydrogen or sodium ions to obtain a water corresponding to the desired type of water in a vessel made of a water-resistant material and having at least one water-permeable wall.
