    Abstract: A fluid gear pump comprising: a first gear including a concentrically disposed first hub portion and a plurality of first teeth; a second gear including a concentrically disposed second hub portion and a plurality of second teeth, wherein at a time in operation the plurality of first teeth and second teeth contact at first and second contact point to create a backlash volume; a first bearing abutting and coaxial to first hub portion; a second bearing abutting and coaxial to second hub portion; and a bridgeland connecting the first and second bearing, the bridgeland separates a low pressure side from a high pressure side, the bridgeland is located such that the backlash volume closes to the high pressure side and opens to the low pressure side when a rate of change of a volume measurement of the backlash volume is decreasing or about equal to zero.

    Abstract: A system includes a starter air valve with a manual override and a pressure regulating bleed valve in fluid communication with the starter air valve. The starter air valve is in fluid communication with an air turbine starter to drive motoring of a gas turbine engine responsive to a compressed air flow from a compressed air source. The pressure regulating bleed valve is operable to bleed a portion of the compressed air flow to produce a bleed controlled starter air flow to limit a motoring speed of the gas turbine engine below a resonance speed of the gas turbine engine responsive to detection of the manual override in an open position.

    Abstract: An air to air heat exchanger is provided including a core having a plurality of alternately stacked first layers and second layers. Each first layer includes a plurality of first modules having corrugated fins that define a plurality of first fluid flow paths. The first modules are aligned to fluidly couple the first fluid flow paths. Each second layer includes at least one second module having corrugated fins that define a plurality of second fluid flow paths. At least one second layer includes a third module having a plurality of corrugated fins that define a plurality of third fluid flow paths. The third module is arranged such that the third fluid flow paths are parallel to the second fluid flow paths. A number of corrugated fins formed in the third module is less than a number of corrugated fins formed in the second module.

    Abstract: A seal housing with fluid regulating capability is provided for use with an outlet. The seal housing includes a seal element, a fitting and a valve. The seal element includes an angled flange that is fittable to the outlet and a seal element body from which the angled flange extends. The seal element body defines a bore extending between opposite open ends of the body and receptive of fluid from the outlet. The fitting is configured to tightly engage with the outlet and to urge the angled flange against the outlet with increasing pressure as fitting-outlet engagement proceeds. A valve is constrained within the bore and configured to regulate a flow of the fluid, which is received from the outlet, through the bore.

    Abstract: A solenoid includes a coil defining an axis, an armature disposed radially inward of the coil, and a plurality of linear guides disposed at least partially between a radially inward facing surface of the coil and a radially outward facing surface of the armature. Each of the linear guides has a frictional surface area, with a dimension of the frictional surface area aligned with the axis being larger than a dimension of the frictional surface area aligned with a circumference of the coil.

    Abstract: An example arrangement for cooling a gas turbine engine includes an air turbine starter, a starter air valve, and an airflow adjustment device. The air turbine starter includes a turbine section for rotationally driving a compressor of a gas turbine engine through rotation of a shaft that connects the turbine section to the compressor. The starter air valve is configured to control a flow of pressurized air along a flow path from a source to turbine blades of the turbine section. The starter air valve includes a manual override feature that allows manual opening of the starter air valve. The airflow adjustment device is configured to adjust the flow of pressurized air along the flow path when the manual override feature is engaged based on a rotational speed of one of the shaft and an additional shaft that is driven by the compressor.
