    Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to equalizing wearing of a plurality of electrical power generators of an aircraft. Such equalization is achieved by logging operating conditions of at least a powered subset of the electrical power generators and then comparing of the logged operating conditions of each of the plurality of electrical power generators. Based on the comparison of the logged operating conditions, one of the plurality of electrical power generators for use the aircraft is recommended. A signal indicative of the recommended one of the electrical power generators determined is then generated.

    Abstract: An integrated flywheel energy storage device includes an inner stator having an interior support component and multiple stator cores connected to the interior support component, each with an associated stator coil arranged in multiple electrical phases. An outer rotor housing supports multiple active rotor poles which each face inward toward the stator cores, the active rotor poles being permanent magnets, copper relining, an induction squirrel cage, or variable reluctance poles. A vacuum containment housing surrounds the outer rotor housing. The outer rotor housing has a rotational moment of inertia that stores kinetic energy as a kinetic battery, allowing the device to deliver multi-phase electrical power when required. High power density is achieved by integrating the flywheel into the outer rotor housing. The device additionally functions as a gyroscope for stabilizing an exterior structure, or as a gyroscopic reference for navigational purposes when supported on a gimballed platform.

    Abstract: A jam-tolerant electromechanical linear actuator having a contra-rotating axial flux permanent magnet (PM) motor having a first and second rotor shafts in a motor housing. The actuator also includes a first speed reduction mechanism operably coupled to the first rotor shaft and a second speed reduction mechanism operably coupled to the second rotor shaft; a first output shaft operably coupled to a output of the first speed reduction mechanism and a second output shaft operably coupled to an output of the second speed reduction mechanism. The actuator also includes a housing enclosing the PM motor, first speed reduction mechanism and second speed reduction mechanism and a slide mechanism operably coupled to the housing. The slide mechanism permit the housing to slide when the motor housing is fixed to the housing or the motor housing to slide with respect to the housing when the housing is held fixed.

    Abstract: An electro-mechanical system has a solenoid with a plunger received in a housing chamber. A plunger portion extends outwardly of the housing. There is at least one coil, and a control for the at least one coil. The control selectively applies a first higher level current to the coil to move the plunger to an actuated position relative to the housing. The control is operable to stop the supply of first high level current to the at least one coil and allow the plunger to move to an un-actuated position. The control is operable to supply a partial power current to the at least one coil when in said un-actuated position to resist movement of the plunger. A method is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A heat exchanger is disclosed including an array of interlaced conduits. The conduit array includes a first plurality of conduits connected to a first inlet header at one end of the first plurality of conduits and to a first outlet header at an opposite end of the first plurality of conduits. This first plurality of conduits provides a first fluid flow path from the first inlet header through the first plurality of conduits to the first outlet header. The conduit array also includes a second plurality of conduits crossing and interlaced with the first plurality of conduits. First and second fluid flow paths are provided through the first and second pluralities of conduits, and a third fluid flow path is through open spaces between the crossed interlaced first and second pluralities of conduits.
