Abstract: An approach is provided for accessing traffic impact caused by individual driving behaviors. For example, the approach involves receiving, by one or more processors, sensor data collected from one or more sensors of a vehicle traveling on a road network. The approach also involves processing, by the processors, the sensor data to determine one or more driving behaviors associated with the vehicle. The approach further involves computing, by the processors, a traffic impact index based on the one or more driving behaviors and at least one contextual parameter associated with the vehicle, the road network, a driver of the vehicle, or a combination thereof. The traffic impact index represents an estimated impact of the vehicle on a traffic flow within at least a portion of the road network. The approach further involves providing, by the processors, the traffic impact index as an output.

Abstract: Provided herein is a method for quantifying and measuring human mobility within defined geographic regions and sub-regions. Methods may include: identifying sub-regions within a region; identifying static information associated with the sub-regions from one or more static information sources; obtaining dynamic information associated with the sub-regions from one or more dynamic information sources; determining correlations between elements of the static information associated with a respective sub-region and elements of the dynamic information associated with the respective sub-regions; generating a mobility score for the respective sub-region based, at least in part, on the correlations between the elements of the static information and the elements of the dynamic information associated with the respective sub-region; and providing the mobility score to one or more clients for guiding an action relative to the mobility score.

Abstract: An approach is provided for determining map improvements based on detected accidents. The approach involves determining that a vehicle was involved in an accident. The approach also involves receiving a report indicating map data configured in the vehicle at a time of the accident. The approach further involves determining an association between the configured map data and the accident. The approach further involves performing one or more of the following operations: (1) transmitting the association and/or at least a portion of the configured map data to a database and/or a computing device; or (2) determining at least one map change to the configured map data based on the determined association, and transmitting the at least one map change to the vehicle, at least one other vehicle, the database, and/or the computing device.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING NAVIGATION GUIDANCE FOR AN INCOMPLETE MAP

Abstract: An approach is provided for generating navigation guidance for incomplete maps. The approach, for example, involves calculating, by a processor, a confidence level of one or more links of the navigation route based on a completeness of map data in an area including the navigation route. The approach also involves determining a specificity level of a navigation guidance command based on the confidence level. The approach further involves generating the navigation guidance command at the determined specificity level. The approach further involves presenting the navigation guidance command in a user interface of a navigation device.

Abstract: An approach is provided for providing an automated recommendation of mobility service providers (e.g., based on a user mobility pattern). The approach involves aggregating mobility service data from a plurality of candidate mobility service providers, wherein the plurality of candidate mobility service providers provide shared vehicle services. The approach further involves selecting at least one recommended mobility service provider from the plurality of candidate mobility service providers based on the mobility pattern and the mobility service data. The approach further involves presenting a recommendation for the user to register for the at least one recommended mobility service provider in a user interface.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING A POOLED ROUTE TO EXTEND A SERVICE AREA OF A SHARED VEHICLE

Abstract: An approach is provided for generating a pooled route to extend a service area of a shared vehicle. The approach involves receiving a request from a first user to travel a first route to a destination outside of the service area of the shared vehicle. The approach also comprises determining a second user with a second route that uses the shared vehicle and that is within a threshold proximity, a threshold time, or a combination thereof of the first route, the destination, or a combination thereof. The approach further comprises computing the pooled route for the first user to travel to the destination using the shared vehicle and for the second user to return the shared vehicle to the service area after the first user reaches the destination.
