Abstract:
A method for communicating using an architecture compatible with a multi-function control and display unit (MCDU) onboard an aircraft is provided. The method intercepts MCDU format communications transmitted by a plurality of avionics systems to the MCDU using a plurality of MCDU communication connections, by at least one processor; presents the intercepted MCDU format communications, via a graphical user interface (GUI) presented by a display device communicatively coupled to the at least one processor; receives user input data via the GUI, wherein the user input data comprises at least one of data entry, user selections, and user commands associated with the plurality of avionics systems; and transmits the user input data to the plurality of avionics systems using the plurality of MCDU communication connections, by a communication device communicatively coupled to the at least one processor.
Abstract:
A vehicular situation display including a user interface, a display, and a processor is provided to modify a vertical profile of a flight plan. The processor may generate vertical profile display data on the display based, receive a request to edit the vertical profile, expand the vertical profile display data on the display, generate a first movable reference line corresponding to one of an altitude, a distance and a time, receive, from the user interface, a flight plan change request to change an altitude, distance or time of the flight plan, the altitude, distance or time corresponding to the first movable reference line, generate a preview of an updated flight plan, and transmit the approval of the displayed updated flight plan to a flight management system, the flight management system configured to update the flight plan of the aircraft based upon the command to change the flight plan.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing the information contained in instrument procedure charts in a more intuitive and easier to comprehend manner is provided. The provided enhanced instrument procedure visualization system displays a dynamic three-dimensional view of a selected instrument procedure, and incorporates time-relevant information from weather and traffic sources. The provided enhanced instrument procedure visualization system further allows a pilot to scroll forward and backward in time to review and study the complete instrument procedure.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for controlling a flight deck multifunction control display unit are disclosed. In various embodiments, the systems may comprise a flight management system or other MCDU driven devices, a command database that stores a plurality of voice commands and a plurality of multifunction control display unit commands. In various embodiments, each voice command is associated with one of the plurality of multifunction control display unit commands. The systems may further comprise a pilot voice interface configured to receive a voice command from a pilot and transmit the voice command to the multifunction control display unit. The multifunction control display unit can receive the voice command from the pilot voice interface and, in response, access the command database to identify a multifunction control display unit command in the command database that is associated with the voice command.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a touchscreen-enabled electronic device (referred to as a “digital pilot notepad”), methods, and program products facilitating the entry of handwritten pilot data into one or more flight deck systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, the digital pilot notepad includes an avionics interface over which alphanumeric input data is transmitted to a flight deck system, a touchscreen device, and a controller operably coupled to the avionics interface and to the touchscreen device. The controller is configured to digitally capture a handwritten pilot note written on the touchscreen device by a pilot, convert the handwritten pilot note to alphanumeric input data in a format compatible with the flight deck system, and subsequently submit the alphanumeric input data to the flight deck system over the avionics interface.
