The moving mechanism (11) is adapted to pivot the X-ray detector (7) in positions such that for each tomographic angle α a detection surface (25) of the X-ray detector (7) is oriented to be substantially perpendicular to the X-ray beam (21). The moving mechanism (11) is adapted to move the X-ray detector (7) in positions such that a distance between the X-ray source (3) and the detector (7) is increased with increasing tomographic angle a thereby enabling that the X-ray detector (7) remains within an enlarged housing (5) during an entire tomographic image acquisition procedure.
