    摘要: The present invention provides an optical recording medium that includes a recording layer composed mainly of an organic compound and can utilize blue-violet semiconductor laser light (390 to 420 nm in wavelength) as recording/reproducing laser light. The present invention also provides an optical recording/reproducing method using the optical recording medium. The optical recording medium 1 comprises at least a supporting substrate 2; a recording layer 3 on the supporting substrate 2, the recording layer 3 containing an organic compound as a major component; and a light-transmitting layer 5 on the recording layer 3, the light-transmitting layer 5 being capable of transmitting laser light with a wavelength of 390 to 420 nm for recording and reproducing information. The organic compound in the recording layer 3 includes a trimethine cyanine dye that has the minimum value nmin of its refractive index n (real part of the complex refractive index) within the range of 370 to 425 nm and has a refractive index n of 1.2 or lower with respect to the wavelength of the recording/reproducing laser light. The organic compound, when absorbing the laser light, melts or degrades to bring about a change in the refractive index, thereby effecting recording of the information.

    摘要: The optical recording medium comprises a light-transmitting substrate 11 having a spiral groove 11a formed thereon and a recording layer 21 containing an organic dye wherein the average inclination angle θa of the wall of the groove 11a on the inward side thereof is greater than the average inclination angle θb of the wall of the groove on the outward side thereof. In this arrangement, when the recording layer 21 is formed by a spin coating method, the dispersion of the thickness of the recording layer 21 inside the groove 11a can be prevented, making it assured that the recording layer 21 can be provided with a desired thickness over an area inside the groove 11a ranging from the inward side thereof to the outward side thereof. As a result, heat of laser beam emitted during recording can be almost uniformly dissipated over the area inside the groove ranging from the inward side to the outward side thereof to eliminate the effect of thermal interference between marks, making it possible to secure a wide power margin during a high speed recording.

    摘要: An optical disk having excellent recording characteristics at both low speed and high speed is provided by modifying a cyanine dye serving as a material of a recording layer such that the cyanine dye does not excessively remain in a groove in an optically transparent substrate. The optical disc comprises the recording layer on a surface of the optically transparent substrate, a reflective layer on the recording layer, and a protective layer on the reflective layer, wherein the recording layer contains at least one cyanine dye expressed by the following chemical formula I: wherein, R1, R2 R3, R4, R5, and R6 are hydrocarbon groups, and A and B are independently a fused benzene ring or a fused naphthalene ring optionally having a substituent, and wherein the recording layer is formed by applying the at least one cyanine dye in a fluoroalcohol solvent to the optically transparent substrate.

A fatty acid ester represented by general formula (I): where R1 is a hydrocarbon having 4 or less carbons, and R2 is a straight chain hydrocarbon having 12 or more carbons, exists between a read element of the MR head and the magnetic layer. This magnetic read/write system exhibits improved adherence to heads, running durability, and wear resistance of the tape in low temperature conditions as well as at room temperature.
