摘要: A servo pattern recording method includes: determining a first servo band group that includes three or more servo bands for recording a servo pattern in which first servo band identification information having a plurality of bits is to be embedded, and a second servo band group that includes three or more servo bands for recording a servo pattern in which second servo band identification information having a plurality of bits is to be embedded, the second servo band identification information being different from the first servo band identification information; and recording the first and second servo band identification information on the first and second servo band groups, respectively, such that a combination of a first pair and a second pair is not duplicated, the first pair being a pair of servo band identification information and a phase in one servo band read by a first servo read head, the second pair being a pair of servo band identification information and a phase in the other servo band read by a second servo read head.

摘要: An apparatus according to one approach includes an array of skew detection transducers. An array of write transducers is spaced from the array of skew detection transducers along an intended direction of tape travel thereacross. An array of read transducers is aligned with the array of write transducers in the intended direction of tape travel. The apparatus also includes a first actuator configured to operatively exert a force on the array of skew detection transducers for orienting a longitudinal axis of the array of skew detection transducers substantially orthogonal to the actual direction of tape travel across the array of skew detection transducers. A magnetic recording medium according to one approach includes a magnetic recording tape having a longitudinal axis extending between distal ends thereof, the magnetic recording tape having vertical bars written in servo-skew patterns thereof, the vertical bars being oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tape.

摘要: The present disclosure generally relates to a tape utilized with a tape drive including a tape head. The tape comprises a plurality of writeable portions configured to store data and a plurality of non-writeable portions that are unable to store data. The writeable portions comprise one or more materials selected from the group consisting of: Ru, Pt, Ta, and Co, and the non-writeable portions comprise a different material than the writeable portions. Each writeable portion is defined between two non-writeable portions, and each writeable portion has a greater area on the tape than each non-writeable portion. The non-writeable portions are utilized during stop-start and turn-around operations of the tape head, are configured to lubricate the tape head, clean the tape head, and remove debris from the tape head. The non-writeable portions enable improved performance of the tape drive while reducing a cost of the tape.

摘要: A method for writing data from a table to a tape includes setting a number of partitions on the tape, where the number of partitions is greater than or equal to a number of columns of the table to be written to the tape, and writing data from each column of the table to at least one partition of the tape, the at least one partition including two or more wraps, the data is written from a top of the two or more wraps towards a bottom of the two or more wraps in a direction of a width of the at least one partition. The written data is reciprocated from a beginning of the tape to an end of the tape in a longitudinal direction of the tape such that writing of a last data entry of one column ends at a beginning of the two or more wraps.
