Abstract:
An elongate towed acoustic array is improved by the inclusion of a speciflly configured tensile load bearing strength member disposed within a hose-shaped sheath. The member has a plurality of longitudinally extending high strength cords formed of braids or strands of high tensile strength fibers. The cords are held in a longitudinal juxtaposed relationship by a transverse weave to define a hollow interior for non-compressively containing sensor elements. Thusly configured, the strength member possess a softness and flexibility that does not create damage inducing crimps while not overly interfering with the sensors' acoustic sensing capabilities. The hose-shaped sheath contains the tubular-shaped strength member in a non-compressive relationship to reduce the problems normally associated with flow noise. The cords are braided together in an eye-splice where they are wrapped about towing pins so that the cords' tensile strength is not compromised at the point of attachment. Optionally, a twill weave is used to hold the longitudinal cords in their juxtaposed relationship to assure softness and flexibility for the wall of the strength member.
Abstract:
Apparatus for mounting and positioning an associated device such as a camcorder which includes a transmitter for producing a control signal, a substantially fixed platform and a control apparatus including a plurality of sensors disposed in a plane at angularly spaced intervals about a first axis. Each of the plurality of sensors is constructed to receive a first control signal radiated by the transmitter. The apparatus also includes structure to discriminate which of the plurality of sensors is receiving the control signal from the transmitter and utilizes that information to drive the servomechanism.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates the execution of a print job. During operation, the system obtains a set of document-processing capabilities from a printer associated with the print job and obtains print data for the print job. Next, the system selects a set of document attributes for the print job based on the document-processing capabilities and the print data, wherein the set of document attributes comprises a document format and a document size. Finally, the system configures the print data to conform to the document attributes to enable processing of the print job by the printer.
Abstract:
Presenting system and device conditions and purchasing options for components compatible with hardware devices of a computer system. In one aspect, an operating system determines the identity of a hardware device in communication with the operating system, communicates over a network to receive current purchasing information related to the hardware device, and displays components that can be selected for purchase and used with the hardware device. Another aspect provides a selectable user interface control for display in a graphical user interface that indicates a new operating condition of the computer system, different from a prior operating condition, by displaying a different appearance of the control. One embodiment has a new operating condition occurring when a component of a hardware device is within a predetermined threshold of requiring replacement, refilling, or supplementation.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide a system that performs a print job. During operation, the system obtains one or more regions of interest associated with print data for the print job, wherein the print data is not formatted for a media size for the print job. Next, the system scales the print data based on a region of interest from the one or more regions of interest and the media size. Finally, the system sends the print job to a printer, wherein the print job is executed using the printer.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates driverless printing. This system includes a discovery component configured to identify accessible printers and to facilitate selection of an accessible printer, wherein the discovery component is also configured to obtain capability information from accessible printers. The system also includes a transport component configured to transport data to the selected printer, wherein the transport component is also configured to obtain capability information from the selected printer. Finally, the system includes a page-description-language component configured to generate printer data for the selected printer based on obtained capability information for the selected printer.

Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates the execution of a print job. During operation, the system receives, at a printer, a signal from a portable electronic device indicating the printer has been selected for the print job. Next, in response to the selection, the system generates an output that facilitates identification of the printer by a user of the portable electronic device. The system also provides a mechanism for confirming physical access to the printer by the user. Upon confirming the physical access to the printer by the user, the system establishes a direct connection between the portable electronic device and the printer, wherein the direct connection is subsequently used by the portable electronic device and the printer to perform the print job.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and system are provided for accentuating a pointer. An idle time period associated with a pointer relating to a display is monitored. A determination is made whether a termination of the idle time period associated with the pointer has occurred based upon the monitoring. A representation of the pointer is modified in response to the termination of the idle time period associated with the pointer.
