Abstract: Wireless device, method, and computer readable media for multi-user request-to-send and clear-to-send and uplink ACK protection in a high efficiency wireless local-area network are disclosed. A high-efficiency (HE) wireless local-area network (HEW) master device may include circuitry configured to generate a multi-user (MU) RTS packet for a plurality of stations (STAs), the RTS packet to include an indication of an address for each of the plurality of STAs. The circuitry may be further configured to transmit the MU-RTS to the plurality STAs and transmit data to one or more of the plurality of STAs in accordance with at least from the following group orthogonal frequency division multi-user (OFDMA) and multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO). The circuitry may be configured to receive acknowledgements from the one or more of the plurality of STAs. A HEW device may set a deferral duration in an uplink transmission to enable a HEW master device to send an acknowledgement.

Abstract: Described are methods and devices for increasing the efficiency of Wi-Fi networks by increased spatial reuse, which refers to sharing the same wireless spectral resources over different spatial regions. A described technique for doing this is for a Wi-Fi device to increase the threshold of the clear channel assessment (CCA) so as to ignore and regard as interference the transmissions from other devices. The sensing range of the Wi-Fi device then decreases, and the spatial resource can be reused by different Wi-Fi devices in different spatial locations.

Abstract: Methods, computer readable media, and wireless apparatuses are disclosed for setting network allocation vectors (NAV) for multi-user (MU) operation. An apparatus of a wireless device is disclosed. The apparatus comprising processing circuitry configured to: decode a preamble portion of a frame, and if the preamble portion of the frame comprises a high-efficiency (HE) signal (SIG) A field (HE-SIG-A) comprising a transmission opportunity (TXOP) duration field and a media access control (MAC) portion of the frame is not decoded, set one or more NAVs based on the TXOP duration field. The processing circuitry may be further configured to: decode a MAC portion of the frame, and if the MAC portion of the frame comprises a MAC duration field, set the one or more NAVs based on the MAC duration field.

Abstract: Embodiments of an access point (AP) may comprise memory and processing circuitry coupled to the memory, and transceiver circuitry coupled to the processing circuitry. The processing circuitry of the AP may be configured to generate a trigger frame to allocate a center 26 tone RU for an HE-trigger-based PPDU, the center 26 tone RU having an adjacent upper 20 MHz subchannel and an adjacent lower 20 MHz subchannel. In an embodiment, the center 26 tone RU is for a station (STA) and wherein the trigger frame indicates to the STA to transmit a pre-HE-STF preamble on one of the adjacent upper 20 MHz subchannel, the adjacent lower 20 MHz subchannel, or both the adjacent upper and lower 20 MHz subchannels, and configure the wireless device to transmit the trigger frame to the station.

Abstract: Computing readable media, apparatuses, and methods for random access with carrier sensing are disclosed. An apparatus is disclosed including processing circuitry configured to: decrement a value of an orthogonal frequency division multiple-access (OFDMA) backoff (OBO) field based on a number of the resource units (RUs) indicated for random access in a trigger frame. The processing circuitry may be further configured to: when the value of the OBO field reaches a predetermined value, randomly select one of the RUs indicated for random access and determine a virtual carrier sense (CS) based on one or more network allocation vectors (NAVs) and perform a physical CS on the selected RU, and if the virtual CS and the physical CS both indicate that the selected RU is idle, transmit a physical (PHY) layer convergence procedure (PLCP) protocol data units (PPDU) on the selected RU in accordance with OFDMA.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer readable media for signaling high-efficiency packet formats using a legacy portion of the preamble in wireless local-area networks are disclosed. A high-efficiency (HE) wireless local area network (HEW) device including circuitry is disclosed. The circuitry may be configured to generate a HE packet comprising a legacy signal field (L-SIG) followed by one or more HE signal fields, and configure the L-SIG to signal to a second HEW device either a first packet format of the HE packet or a second packet format of the HE packet, where a length of the L-SIG modulo 3 is used to signal the first packet format or the second packet format. The circuitry may be configured to generate a duplicated L-SIG field with a polarity difference to indicate a third packet configuration of the HE packet or a fourth packet configuration of the HE packet.

Abstract: Embodiments of a high-efficiency Wi-Fi (HEW) station, access point (AP), and method for random access contention in a wireless network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the HEW station may receive a beacon frame that indicates a number of trigger frames (TFs) included in a beacon interval. The beacon frame may be received from an HEW access point (AP) in channel resources that include multiple sub-channels. The HEW station may receive a random access TF that indicates a random access portion of the sub-channels that are allocated for random access contention during an uplink transmission period. The HEW station may select a candidate sub-channel from the channel resources. When the candidate sub-channel is included in the random access portion, the HEW station may transmit an association request (AR) frame on the candidate sub-channel during the uplink transmission period.
