Abstract: Described herein is a teleoperational medical system for performing a medical procedure in a surgical field. The teleoperational system comprises an eye tracking unit and a control unit. The eye tracking unit includes an image display configured to display to a user an image of the surgical field, at least one eye tracker configured to measure data about a gaze point of the user, and a processor configured to process the data to determine a viewing location in the displayed image at which the gaze point of the user is directed. The control unit is configured to control at least one function of the teleoperational medical system based upon the determined viewing location.

Abstract: An eye tracking system may comprise an image display configured to display an image of a surgical field to a user. The eye tracking system may also comprise a right eye tracker configured to measure data about a first gaze point of a right eye of the user. The right eye tracker may include a right stereo imaging device. The eye tracking system may also comprise a left eye tracker configured to measure data about a second gaze point of a left eye of the user. The left eye tracker may include a left stereo imaging device. The eye tracking system may also comprise at least one processor configured to process the data about the first gaze point and the second gaze point to determine a viewing location in the displayed image at which a three-dimensional gaze point of the user is directed.

Abstract: A medical system comprises an eye tracking unit which includes an image display, an eye tracker, and a processor. The image display is configured to display to a user an image of a surgical field. The eye tracker is configured to measure data corresponding to eye gaze dynamics of the user during a procedure. The processor configured to assess a stress or fatigue level of the user based on the measured data. A corresponding method includes displaying an image of a surgical field on an image display, measuring a gaze point of a user during a procedure with an eye tracker, measuring data corresponding to eye gaze dynamics of the user during the procedure, and assessing a stress or fatigue level of the user based on the measured data.

Abstract: Described herein is an eye tracking system comprising an image display configured to display an image of a surgical field to a user. The image display is configured to emit a light in first wavelength range. The system further comprises a right eye tracker configured to emit light in a second wavelength range and to measure data about a first gaze point of a right eye of the user. The system further comprises a left eye tracker configured to emit light in the second wavelength range and to measure data about a second gaze point of a left eye of the user. The system further comprises an optical assembly disposed between the image display and the right and left eyes of user. The optical assembly is configured to direct the light of the first and second wavelength ranges such that the first and second wavelengths share at least a portion of a left optical path between left eye and the image display and share at least a portion of a right optical path between the right eye and the image display, without the right and left eye trackers being visible to the user. The system further comprises at least one processor configured to process the data about the first gaze point and the second gaze point to determine a viewing location in the displayed image at which the gaze point of the user is directed.
