Abstract: A display device includes: a display panel including a display region overlapping pixels; a light source device disposed on a lateral side of the display panel; and a drive circuit configured to calculate an output gradation value based on an input gradation value and to output a pixel drive signal corresponding to the output gradation value to a corresponding one of the pixels. The pixels include a first pixel and a second pixel arranged in a first direction from a first side surface toward a second side surface. The second pixel is between the first pixel and the second side surface. When the input gradation value for the first pixel is equal to the input gradation value for the second pixel, the drive circuit is configured to set the output gradation value for the second pixel to be larger than the output gradation value for the first pixel.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a polarization conversion element includes a first light guide including a first main surface and a side surface, a transmissive first polarization grating opposed to the side surface, and a reflective second polarization grating opposed to the first main surface. The first polarization grating is configured to diffract first circularly polarized light of unpolarized incident light and to diffract second circularly polarized light which rotates in a direction opposite to the first circularly polarized light in a direction different from the first circularly polarized light. The second polarization grating is configured to reflect the first circularly polarized light on the reflective surface.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel having a display area provided with pixels; a dimming panel disposed so as to face the display panel and having a dimming area provided with dimming pixels; and a light source configured to emit light that travels from the dimming panel toward the display panel. When a pixel among the pixels is controlled to be lit up in white, blurring processing is applied so as to cause more than one of the dimming pixels including a dimming pixel overlapping the pixel to transmit light, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring area and the pixel. The blurring area is determined based on a positional misalignment with respect to a predetermined positional relation between the display area and the dimming area.

Abstract: A display device includes a display panel and a light source device. A display period of a frame image includes three subframe periods and an adjusting subframe period. The light source device emits light for reproducing a color corresponding to first chromaticity coordinates in a first subframe period, emits light for reproducing a color corresponding to second chromaticity coordinates in a second subframe period, emits light for reproducing a color corresponding to third chromaticity coordinates in a third subframe period, and emits light for reproducing a differential color in the adjusting subframe period. A chromaticity coordinate area with the first to third chromaticity coordinates as apexes includes chromaticity coordinates of pixel data obtained by excluding partial pixel data from pixel data included in frame image data. The differential color is a complementary color of a mixed color of three colors corresponding to the first to third chromaticity coordinates.
