摘要: Altimeters correct themselves by analysing pressure data to identify underlying climatic changes and modify sensed pressures accordingly to provide corrected altitude values. The detected underlying climatic changes are used to provide a barometer function independent of altitude changes. The climatic changes can be tropical or temperate. Various locations can be stored in the altimeter. A plot of the modified pressures can be displayed.

摘要: A smoke detection device for use in a portable device such as a mobile terminal. The smoke detection device comprises a light emitter and a light detector disposed on different locations on the portable device so that when smoke or an intruding object is presence in the light path of the light emitter outside the device housing, it causes the light emitted by the light emitter to be scattered or reflected. When the light detector senses the scattered or reflected light, it can cause an alarm signal to be produced by the portable device. The emitted light can be in the infrared region so that the detection is independent of the ambient light. Alternatively, the light emitter is operated in a pulsed mode. Additional light emitter and light detectors can be disposed on the portable device for proximity sensing in addition to smoke detection.

摘要: The invention relates to a detection of a simultaneous occurrence of an event of a predetermined kind at a plurality of electronic devices. At least two devices detect the event and record at their end the time elapsing after this detection. Then, a communication channel is established between the devices. Once the communication channel has been established, an indication of the recorded elapsed times can be exchanged. At least one of the devices compares a recorded elapsed time with an indicated elapsed time received from another device. If both elapsed times are similar to each other, it can be assumed that the event occurred simultaneously at both devices. The invention relates equally to corresponding devices, to a corresponding data transfer system and to corresponding software program products.

摘要: The invention relates to a method of initiating a wireless transfer of data between two electronic devices. In order to make the initiation particularly user friendly, it is proposed that a concept called “hugging” is employed. A hugging state between two electronic devices is assumed to be given if a first electronic device and a second electronic device are determined to undergo a specific motion pattern relative to each other while being at least in close vicinity to each other. Only in case such a hugging state is detected at a first device, a data transfer channel is opened for transferring data between the first device and some other device, e.g. the second device. The invention relates equally to a corresponding device and to a software program product with a corresponding software code.

摘要: An apparatus for quantifying irradiance has a first sensor having an output for providing a reference signal of irradiance within a first band, such as the visible light band. A filter and a second sensor are in optical series so that irradiance sensed at the second sensor is filtered. The second sensor outputs a filtered signal of irradiance within the first band. The filter particularly filters irradiance in the first band as a function of irradiance in the second band, such as the UV light band. In an exemplary embodiment, the filter is made from a material that darkens with increasing UV irradiance. A processor has inputs coupled to the outputs of the first and second sensors for determining irradiance in the second band from the reference signal and the filtered signal. Mathematical formulations for the processor are provided, as are methods and a computer program embodied on a medium. A single sensor embodiment is also described.

摘要: This invention provides a method to operate a terminal (100), as well as a terminal that operates in accordance with the method. The method includes, in response to initiating a data write operation with a non-volatile memory device (132), activating a sensor (190) that is capable of detecting that the terminal is falling; during the write operation, monitoring the sensor to determine if the terminal is falling and, if it is determined that the terminal is falling, terminating the write operation and executing a non-volatile memory shutdown procedure, else, if it is determined that the terminal is not falling, completing the write operation and deactivating the sensor.
