Abstract:
An arrangement for detecting toner or debris deposits on an imaging surface is arranged downstream from the cleaning station. The imaging surface is illuminated with a light source, a light intensity detecting sensor arrangement is provided to view the illuminated surface and produce a signal representative of detected light intensity, and a response signal is produced indicative of the condition of the surface.
Abstract:
An apparatus which seals a housing to prevent the escape of toner particles therefrom. The toner particles are captured and softened to become tacky. Additional toner particles stick to the tacky toner particles preventing their escape. Each successive layer of captured toner particles soften and become tacky capturing other toner particles thereto.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for controlling the transverse registration of an image area to be exposed on a longitudinally moving belt by providing belt edge profile data, detecting a lateral position of the belt during movement of the belt by measuring the lateral position of the belt edge, and adjusting the transverse location of the image on the belt to compensate for a difference between the detected lateral belt edge position and the belt edge profile data. In addition, a method and apparatus is provided for controlling the lateral position of a longitudinally moving endless belt by generating a steering command signal by calculating a difference between the detected first lateral position of the belt edge and the belt edge profile data corresponding to the first longitudinal position, and adjusting the lateral position of the belt by steering the belt in response to the steering command.
Abstract:
An electrophotographic printing machine, of the type having a photoconductive surface on which a developed image is formed for producing a plural color image on a sheet substrate, includes mechanisms for forming a developed image on the photoconductive surface by attracting developer material of a plurality of colors to the photoconductive surface. The machine further provides apparatus for adjusting the forming mechanisms so as to change the quantity of at least one of the plurality of colored developer materials attracted to the photoconductive surface so that the quantity of the respective developer materials constituting the image produced on the substrate is varied. Finally, a device for storing and applying electronic signals corresponding to selected adjustments of the adjusting apparatus is provided so that selected colors are repeatable.
Abstract:
Simplified document editing in a reprographic system allows an operator to edit documents using an edit pad located at the bottom portion of the raised platen cover rather than the conventional method of placing the document on the top of the closed platen cover or some other remote editing location for editing. This eliminates the need to first edit the document and then register it on the platen which, importantly, eliminates the need for handling the document twice and improves document registration. The concept includes retractable registration bars to ensure proper registration of the document to be edited.
Abstract:
An apparatus in which background density of a sheet having visible indicia is monitored. A region of the sheet is scanned and a signal is generated corresponding to the scanned region. The signal corresponding to the scanned region is processed and a signal corresponding to the background density of the sheet is generated.
Abstract:
An adaptive setup for a printing machine that stores time and date data for each usage. A pattern of the stored information is determined and processed in conjunction with operator entered restrictions in order to specify machine operating conditions for successive days and times.
Abstract:
A printing machine in which magnetically permeable marking particles develop a latent image recorded on a photoconductive member. A read head is positioned adjacent the photoconductive member to detect magnetic field intensity effects produced by the marking particles. In addition, an optical device may be used to transmit a light beam onto the marking particles developed on the latent image and to sense the intensity of the light rays reflected therefrom. The read head alone or in combination with the optical device, generates a control signal. The control signal may be used to regulate one of the processing stations of the printing machine.
Abstract:
An apparatus in which a latent image recorded on an image receiving member is developed with marking particles. A developer roller transports the marking particles into the development zone. A blade having at least one aperture therein through which the marking particles pass has the free end portion thereof in contact with the developer roller. In this way, the thickness of the layer of marking particles on the developer roller is controlled.
Abstract:
An apparatus which regulates the developability of a conductive developer mixture by controlling the concentration of toner particles therein. The concentration of toner particles in the developer mixture is adjusted in response to the sensed conductivity.
