Abstract: A display panel includes a light source section, a light guide section, a liquid crystal layer, a partition section, a display section, and a diffusion section. The light source section can emit red light, green light, and blue light. A light source light emitted from the light source section enters the light guide section. The red light, the green light, and the blue light that have passed through the light guide section enter the liquid crystal layer. The partition section partitions the liquid crystal layer into plural pixel regions. An image formed by the red light, the green light, and the blue light emitted from the pixel regions is displayed on the display section. The diffusion section is provided in the light guide section and diffuses the red light, the green light, and the blue light that have entered the light guide section into the light guide section.

An example of concrete structure to attain the purpose is: A display area is formed in an area where the TFT substrate and the counter substrate overlap, a terminal area is formed in an area where the TFT substrate and the counter substrate do not overlap, an LED is disposed in the terminal area opposing to a side surface of the counter substrate, the LED is connected to a printed wiring substrate, a driver IC to drive the liquid crystal display device is disposed in the terminal area, a metal plate is disposed between the driver IC and the printed wiring substrate, the metal plate contacts the printed wiring substrate via a first heat dissipation sheet, and contacts the driver IC via a second heat dissipation sheet.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an illuminating device includes a lightguide plate including a curved emitting surface, and an incidence surface including a side edge curved along the emitting surface, a printed circuit board facing the incidence surface, and light sources mounted on the printed circuit board. Each light source includes a light-emitting center, a pair of connection terminals, and a central axis extending through the connection terminals and the light-emitting center. The light sources are arranged along a curved mounting line extending along the curved side edge of the incidence surface on the printed circuit board.
