Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer which includes a stripe-like polymer and first liquid crystal molecules having responsiveness to an electric field, a light source and a transparent film which includes second liquid crystal molecules which are not responsive to an electric field. Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a first light guide element and a light-emitting element. The liquid crystal layer contains stringy polymers and liquid crystal molecules. The first light guide element includes a third transparent substrate including a side surface and a main surface, and a transparent layer disposed on the main surface and having a refractive index lower than that of the third transparent substrate. The light-emitting element opposes the side surface, and the third transparent substrate is adhered to the second transparent substrate while interposing the transparent layer therebetween. In a spatial frequency spectrum obtained by performing FT on a pattern of the polymers which overlap the pixels with respect to first and second frequency components, when an outline in a plane defined by the components in an area having a value of 75% or more of the maximum value is defined as an evaluation circle, and a value obtained by dividing a length of a major axis of the circle by that of a minor axis is defined as an evaluation value, the evaluation value of the first pixel is greater than that of the second pixel.
