摘要:
A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk including a plurality of servo tracks defined by servo sectors, wherein each servo sector comprises a servo preamble. A head is actuated over the disk, wherein the head is operable to generate a read signal. The disk drive further comprises control circuitry including an analog cutoff filter operable to filter the read signal to generate a filtered read signal. The filtered read signal is sampled to generate read samples. During a normal operating mode, the analog cutoff filter is configured to have a first bandwidth. During a measurement mode, the analog cutoff filter is configured to have a second bandwidth greater than the first bandwidth, and the read samples representing at least part of the servo preamble are processed to measure a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and/or a fly height of the head.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk having a plurality of tracks, wherein each track comprises a plurality of data sectors and a plurality of servo sectors. The disk drive further comprises a head actuated over the disk, the head comprising a read element radially offset from a write element by a reader/writer offset. In order to rewrite a marginal servo sector detected in a target track, control circuitry within the disk drive relocates user data recorded in a first data sector of a near adjacent track to a staging memory. Servo data is written over the first data sector, and the read element is used to read the servo data written over the first data sector to actuate the head to rewrite the marginal servo sector of the target track. The user data stored in the staging memory is then rewritten to the first data sector.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk having a plurality of data tracks defined by a plurality of servo sectors, wherein each servo sector comprises a Gray coded address representing at least part of a track address. The disk drive further comprises a head actuated over the disk for detecting a first Gray coded address in a first servo sector. A second Gray coded address is generated in response to the first Gray coded address. The first Gray coded address is decoded into a first binary address, and the second Gray coded address is decoded into a second binary address. One of the first and second binary addresses closest to a target address is selected, and the head is positioned in response to the selected binary address.

A disk drive that compensates for written-in track squeeze errors (TSEs) during track following is disclosed. The disk drive may be used to compensate for TSEs when determining the position error signal (PES) by implementing operations that include: determining a track squeeze value for a servo sector based upon read servo bursts; determining a PES value for the servo sector based upon read servo bursts; estimating a Squeeze Correction Coefficient (SCC) to account for track squeeze induced PES sensing gain variation associated with the servo sector based upon the PES value and the track squeeze value; calculating a squeeze corrected PES value based upon the SCC and the PES value; and utilizing the squeeze corrected PES value in servo control.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk comprising a plurality of servo sectors defining a plurality of servo tracks. The servo tracks form a plurality of servo zones, where a servo data rate of servo sectors in a first servo zone is different than a servo data rate of servo sectors in a second servo zone. A servo control system servos a head over the disk. An estimated servo state of a servo control system is generated, and when the head crosses from a first servo zone to a second servo zone, the estimated servo state is adjusted to compensate for a transient in a circumferential distance between a servo sector in the first servo zone and a servo sector in the second servo zone.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk comprising a plurality of servo tracks defined by servo sectors. The disk drive further comprises a head comprising a read element offset linearly from a write element by a gap such that when the disk rotates, the read element reaches a servo sector before the write element. During a first operation, a first length of a beginning of the servo sector is read, and during a write operation, a second length of the beginning of the servo sector shorter than the first length is read to enable data to be written while the read element is over at least part of the servo sector.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk including a plurality of sectors each comprising a sector sync mark pattern and sector data preceding and following the sector sync mark pattern, and a head actuated over the disk for generating a read signal. A data sequence is detected from the read signal, and the data sequence is correlated with an extended sync mark comprising a target sync mark pattern and target data. The correlation of the target sync mark pattern with the data sequence is biased relative to the correlation of the target data with the data sequence.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk having servo data defining a plurality of servo tracks. The servo data comprises a preamble, and a plurality of slanted line servo bursts recorded at a tilt angle with respect to the preamble. The slanted line servo bursts comprises a first plurality of slanted line servo bursts and a second plurality of slanted line servo bursts, wherein the second plurality of slanted line servo bursts are offset radially from the first plurality of slanted line servo bursts. A position error signal (PES) is generated in response to a phase difference when reading the preamble and the slanted line servo bursts.

A system and method for efficiently identifying track squeeze errors (TSEs) of a disk of a disk drive during a testing process for the disk drive is disclosed. The method includes reading servo bursts from a track of the disk, utilizing a modeled scan variable, and determining a gain comprising a ratio of a first matrix A and a second matrix B. TSEs associated with the SWEs of the servo bursts are determined for the track. The TSEs are determined as a product of the gain and a measured scan variable wherein the measured scan variable is calculated as being the difference between a measured scan value and an estimated nominal scan value.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk comprising a plurality of servo tracks defined by servo sectors recorded around the circumference of the disk at a servo sampling frequency, and a servo control system operable to actuate a head over the disk by generating a control signal applied to an actuator. A first sinusoid is injected into the servo control system and a first DC component (dc1) is measured in the control signal. A second sinusoid is injected into the servo control system and a second DC component (dc2) is measured in the control signal, wherein the second sinusoid comprises a phase offset from the first sinusoid. A resonance mode of the servo control system is measured based on dc1 and dc2.
