Abstract: A communication network includes a base station in radio frequency communication with a mobile station. In order to regulate packet data messaging by the mobile station, the base station transmits a message over-the-air to the mobile station. The message indicates that the mobile station is to delay transmitting packet data messages and a duration of delay. In response to receipt of the message from the base station, the mobile station delays over-the-air transmission of packet data messages (e.g., Data Burst Messages) in accordance with the indicated duration.

Abstract: A method for communicating additional network information using a synchronization identifier is presented. A synchronization identifier is defined. The synchronization identifier is used for the purpose of synchronizing communication between a Mobile Station (MS) and a network. In addition, the synchronization identifier is used to define additional functionality in the wireless network. As such, the synchronization identifier may be used to communicate information about wireless services and/or wireless components between the MS and the network.

Abstract: The invention provides methods and systems for extending RSVP signaling to wireless networks. RSVP messages may be intercepted by an RSVP daemon, adjusted as necessary to accommodate the wireless network, and then forwarded on as RSVP messages either on a traffic channel or as a short data burst. Alternatively, the RSVP messages may be encapsulated in layer 3 messages. Alternatively, RSVP messages may be intercepted by another component, such as a PDSN, which then coordinates the establishment of the requested wireless connection.

Abstract: In a communication system, physical-layer frames for transmission over the physical layer are assembled from link-layer protocol data units (PDU's) by combining several PDU's into a variable-length first block, and providing the first block with an error detection and/or correction code such as a CRC. The first blocks are mapped into fixed-length second blocks, including repetitive copies of the first blocks if space permits. The second blocks are mapped into physical-layer frames, including repetitive copies of the second blocks if space permits. After reception of the frames, the replication enhances the probability of recovering correct PDU's as verified by the error detection and correction codes.

Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are provided for increasing the efficiency of Radio Frequency (RF) resources. Specifically, a modified Resource Release Request Message (RRRM) is utilized. The modified RRRM incorporates several additional fields that allow for the release of multiple service instances at approximately the same time. The simultaneous or near simultaneous release of multiple service instance is more efficient that the traditional RRRM for the release of a single service instance. Therefore, limited RF resources can be better preserved.

Abstract: In a wireless communications network, a method of performing a location service with respect to a mobile station includes communicating a paging message containing an indication of whether the paging message is related to at least one of an emergency-related location service and a law enforcement-related location service. In another aspect, a mobile station in a wireless communications network communicates messaging to move the mobile station to a traffic channel in response to a callback by at least one of an emergency services entity and a law enforcement entity. Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not.To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station. Other mobile stations connected to the base transceiver operate without implementing the shortened slot cycle.
