In a wireless communications network, a method of performing a location service with respect to a mobile station includes communicating a paging message containing an indication of whether the paging message is related to at least one of an emergency-related location service and a law enforcement-related location service. In another aspect, a mobile station in a wireless communications network communicates messaging to move the mobile station to a traffic channel in response to a callback by at least one of an emergency services entity and a law enforcement entity. The mobile station also receives a location request on the traffic channel, the location request containing an indication of whether the location request is related to at least one of an emergency-related location service and a law enforcement-related location service.
Abstract:
To communicate in a press-to-talk (PTT) session, a message for requesting a right to talk in the PTT session is sent over a wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The message for requesting the right to talk in the PTT session is sent in wireless signaling over the wireless link. An acknowledgment of the wireless signaling carrying the message is received, with the acknowledgment sent by the base station system in response to the control signaling. An indication is provided at the mobile station of the right to talk in response to the acknowledgment.
Abstract:
A packet data service node (PDSN) is formed to establish a connection with a plurality of mobile terminals by way of one or more packet control function cards or devices. A packet control function (PCF) card or device is formed to provide an interface between the packet data domain and wireless domain and further to inform a base station controller/access network controller (BSC/ANC) to block the setup and establishment of any additional communication links in a specified manner until the overload condition ceases to exist. More specifically, the PCF receives loading information from each PDSN to which it is connected and determines a composite loading factor. The PCF transmits the composite loading factor to the BSC/ANC periodically or if the loading factor exceeds a specified threshold and call blocking should be initiated for packet data calls for a select group of mobile terminals.

A communication network includes a base station in radio frequency communication with a mobile station. In order to regulate packet data messaging by the mobile station, the base station transmits a message over-the-air to the mobile station. The message indicates that the mobile station is to delay transmitting packet data messages and a duration of delay. In response to receipt of the message from the base station, the mobile station delays over-the-air transmission of packet data messages (e.g., Data Burst Messages) in accordance with the indicated duration.
Abstract:
Various methods for effectively detecting the discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode are provided both from the physical layer perspective and from the medium access layer (MAC) perspective. The DTX mode transmission on reverse supplemental channels is detected by comparing a transmitted and a received power ratio of a pilot channel and a supplemental channel. For a reverse link communication, the DTX mode transmission is detected on dedicated control channels. The DTX mode transmission on a forward link supplemental channel can also be detected by monitoring both the transmitted and received power ratios of a primary power control channel and the supplemental channel. As an alternative to or in combination with the above mentioned methods, in order to monitor the DTX mode, a new network parameter is introduced which requires a change in the IS-2000-3 standard. This parameter acts as an indicator signaling to a receiver, from the MAC layer, that the transmitter has entered into the DTX mode.
Abstract:
An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are provided for increasing the efficiency of Radio Frequency (RF) resources. Specifically, a modified Resource Release Request Message (RRRM) is utilized. The modified RRRM incorporates several additional fields that allow for the release of multiple service instances at approximately the same time. The simultaneous or near simultaneous release of multiple service instance is more efficient that the traditional RRRM for the release of a single service instance. Therefore, limited RF resources can be better preserved.

To communicate information relating to an application over a wireless link, application control information and application data information are communicated over the wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The application data information is communicated over a traffic flow over the wireless link, and the application control information is communicated in a wireless control message carried in wireless signaling associated with the traffic flow.
Abstract:
The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not.To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station. Other mobile stations connected to the base transceiver operate without implementing the shortened slot cycle.
