Abstract: The invention concerns synthesized amido-amine-based cationic gemini surfactants with flexible and rigid spacers and different hydrophobic. These gemini surfactants were prepared by modified procedure through amidation of long chain carboxylic acids using 3-(dimethylamino)-1-propylamine followed by treatment with halohydrocarbons and showed excellent thermal stability and surface properties useful for various oilfield applications such as enhanced oil recovery.

Abstract: A thermochemical engine that includes a reaction chamber having a nitrite source inlet, an ammonium source inlet, and a gas outlet, and a gas-driven energy transducer coupled to the reaction chamber such that a gas produced in the reaction chamber moves the gas-driven energy transducer in a process of exiting the reaction chamber via the gas outlet. The thermochemical engine is configured to produce the gas under pressure by reacting in the reaction chamber a nitrite source comprising a nitrite ion and an ammonium source comprising an ammonium ion in the presence of water at a reaction temperature of 50 to 150° C.

Abstract: A method of enhanced oil recovery in a carbonate rock formation including injecting a mixture into the carbonate rock formation containing an oil composition and extracting the oil composition from the carbonate rock formation. The mixture includes 90-99.99 vol % of an aqueous solution and 0.01-10 vol % of a gemini cationic surfactant based on a total volume of the mixture and 1-2000 parts per million (ppm) of methylene blue, based on a total weight of the mixture. During the injecting at least a portion of the gemini cationic surfactant is adsorbed onto the carbonate rock formation, and at least 50% less by volume of the gemini cationic surfactant adsorbs onto the carbonate rock formation compared to a method under the same conditions but without the methylene blue.

Abstract: A drilling fluid composition includes an aqueous base fluid, 0.01 to 10 wt. % of a date palm leaves extract (DPLE), 1 to 10 wt. % of clay particles, and 0.01 to 1 wt. % of a base, where each wt. % based on a total weight of the drilling fluid composition. The DPLE is homogenously disposed on surfaces of the clay particles. The clay particles disposed with the DPLE are present in the drilling fluid composition in the form of a composite. A pellet made from the clay particles treated with the DPLE has a swelling value at least 75% less than a swelling value of the pellet in an aqueous composition that does not contain the DLPE. A method of making the drilling fluid composition.

Abstract: A method for assessing an optimal acid injection rate in the process of hydrocarbon formation stimulation. The method comprises evaluating an anisotropic diffusion coefficient by pulsed gradient NMR, introduction of a semi-empirical correction based on comparison of the downhole conditions with the library of laboratory experiments where such corrections were measured, extrapolation of the library data to the real downhole conditions. The improved values of the diffusion coefficients are applied in determining wormhole regime conditions that are optimal in terms of acid consumption per a unit of stimulated yield of the hydrocarbon.

Abstract: Methods of controlling clay swelling and stabilizing subterranean geological formations containing swellable clays (e.g., montmorillonite, bentonite) are described. The methods involve treating the swellable clays with a composition containing an amidoamine-based gemini surfactant. The gemini surfactant has dual chains connected via an alkylene linker, whereby each chain contains a quaternary ammonium head group and an ethoxylated alkyl tail. As examined by linear swelling and free swelling tests, use of the gemini surfactant is effective in reducing swelling of the clays.
