摘要: An automotive steering column apparatus has an inner column rotatably supporting a steering shaft, an outer column holding the inner column while rotatably embracing the inner column, a vehicle body side bracket having a vehicle body mount portion which can be mounted on a vehicle body and a pair of left and right facing flat plate portions which extend substantially vertically and disposed in such a manner as to surround the outer column, a clamping mechanism for changing a width of the pair of facing flat plate portions and changing a width of an inner circumferential surface of the outer column in connection with a change in the width of the pair of facing flat portions, and a shear ring mounted on at least either the inner circumferential surface of the outer column or an outer circumferential surface of the inner column. A shear permissive projection is provided on the shear ring. A groove is formed in at least either the inner circumferential surface of the outer column or the outer circumferential surface of the inner column. The shear permissive projection is in engagement with the groove.

摘要: A coupling structure of a variable length shaft, comprises a pipe member having an end formed with a plurality of slits elongated in the axial direction to be capable of expanding and diminishing in diameter, an intermediate shaft spline-fitted in the end of the pipe member, and a ring member fitted on an outer periphery of the end of the pipe member, the intermediate shaft being fastened by the end of the pipe member. A holder is releasably attached to an end of the ring member to expand a diameter thereof and thereby reduce a slide frictional resistance of the pipe member against the intermediate shaft. When the holder is released, the ring member diminishes in diameter, and a fastening force of the pipe member on the intermediate shaft is increased.

摘要: A column mounting assembly for a tilt-type steering device comprises a supporting bracket with a pair of vertical plate portions to be secured to an automobile body, tilt adjusting bolt integrated with a steering column disposed between the vertical plate portions, and held by the vertical plate portions raisably and lowerably, an operation lever rotatably operable between a first angle position and a second angle position, and tilt adjusting for fastening the tilt adjusting bolt to the bracket when the operation lever is located in the first angle position, and unfastening the tilt adjusting bolt to make the tilt adjusting bolt raisable and lowerable when the operation lever is located in the second angle position. A serration engagement section is provided between the operation lever and adjusting nut to transmit rotation of the operation lever to the adjusting nut.

摘要: In order to enhance the support rigidity of a steering column and moreover make the height dimension of a height adjusting mechanism small to thereby make it difficult for the steering column to interfere with a driver's knees, when the height position of a steering wheel is to be fixed, a tilt bolt is fastened by a tilt lever and as a result, the spacing between a fore end surface and the inner side of the tip end portion of a first hold-down arm portion constituting a hold-down bracket is shortened, and the inner sides of fixed plate portion constituting a fixed bracket hold-down the steering column from the left and right sides thereof. During the adjustment of the height, the tilt bolt is loosened and first and second restraining pins are moved along slots.
