摘要: An apparatus, system, and method quickly backs up data in an emergency situation and reduces battery backup dependence. The apparatus may include a backup module and a dedicated computer readable storage device. The backup module interfaces with system memory and selectively transmits modified data to the storage device in response to a detected system failure. The dedicated storage device stores the modified data around the outer edge of a hard disk in order to increase write performance. The system may include the backup module, the storage device, a plurality of client devices, and a plurality of storage devices. The method includes storing modified and unmodified data, detecting a system failure, and transmitting modified data stored in a memory module to a dedicated computer readable backup device. Upon rebooting the device, the method may include restoring the modified data to the system memory and destaging the modified data to the plurality of storage devices.

摘要: An apparatus, system and method are disclosed for storing modified data. The apparatus includes a battery source for supplying backup power. The apparatus also includes a memory module for storing data. The memory module includes a backup portion and a non-backup portion. Only the backup portion is backed up by the battery source in the event of a power failure. A data flow module controls data flow into and out of the memory module. The data flow module stores modified data exclusively in the backup portion of the memory module.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for flushing cache data in a cache system. The apparatus includes a zero module and a flush module. The zero module executes an internal processor instruction to zero out a zero memory segment of a nonvolatile memory and a processor cache in response to a loss of primary power to the processor cache. The flush module flushes modified data from an address in the processor cache to a flush memory segment of the nonvolatile memory before the zero module puts a zero in the address. Advantageously, the zero memory segment is reserved within the memory and used to zero out the processor cache, effectively flushing the existing data from the processor cache to a flush memory segment of the memory.

摘要: A system and method for controlling peer-to-peer remote copy (PPRC) operations initiated from one or more host devices that desire to store data contents written to a first storage system to a second storage system over a communications link. The system enables receipt and generation of copy services commands from host devices and the determination of whether a received command pertains to a copy service over an established PPRC relationship for that particular customer to enable that customer to perform storage operations effecting data written to a first storage server having source volumes and stored in a remote second storage system having target volumes. The copy services command effecting data contents of source volumes and/or remote target volumes will be enabled if it is determined that said PPRC relationship is already established for that customer; and, prevented if the received copy services command does effect any volume not already in a copy services relationship.

摘要: A method for storing customer data at a non-volatile storage (NVS) at a storage server. A track buffer is maintained for identifying first and second sets of segments that are allocated in the NVS. A flag in the track buffer identifies which of the first and second sets of segments to use for storing customer data for which a write request has been made. The customer data is stored in the NVS in successive commit processes. Following a power loss in the storage server, the NVS uses the track buffer information to identify which of the first and second sets of segments was involved in the current commit process to allow the current commit process to be completed.

摘要: A method is disclosed to reconfigure a storage array disposed in a data storage system. The method supplies a data storage system comprising a plurality of data storage devices, wherein each of the plurality of data storage devices is assigned to one of a plurality of data storage arrays, or is assigned as a spare device. The method then detects an unassigned data storage device, and determines if any of the plurality of data storage arrays comprises a degraded data storage array. If the method determines that any of the plurality of data storage arrays comprises a degraded data storage array, then the method determines if the unassigned data storage device can be used to restore the degraded data storage array to optimal reliability, optimal performance, and optimal efficiency. If the method determines that the unassigned data storage device can be used restore the degraded array to an array comprising optimal reliability, optimal performance, and optimal efficiency, then the method reconfigures the degraded data storage array to comprise the unassigned data storage device.

摘要: A method of verifying the passage of a data write across a bus is provided including sending the data write from an originator across the bus to a target, counting the number of data entries received at the target with a counter, and transmitting a return echo write from the target across the bus to a return address. The method further includes attaching the counter value to other data associated with the return echo write and polling the return address. The method allows determination of the completion of a data write by comparing the number of data entries included in the data write with the counter value polled from the return address. Alternatively, in a data streaming environment the progress of a data write may be determined by comparing the number of data entries included in the data write at a select point in time with the counter value polled from the return address. Typical data entries which are counted may include, but are not limited to, bytes, words, double words, or similar data quantities.
