摘要: Provided are a liquid crystal device, a composition capable of forming a liquid crystal layer, a method of manufacturing the liquid crystal device, a system for manufacturing the liquid crystal device, and a use of the liquid crystal device. The liquid crystal device is a device capable of exhibiting, for example, a normally transparent or black mode, exhibiting a high contrast ratio, being driven with a low driving voltage, and exhibiting excellent durability such as thermal stability. Such a liquid crystal device may be applied to various optical modulators such as a smart window, a window protective film, a flexible display device, an active retarder for displaying 3D images, or a viewing angle control film.

In some embodiments, a light modulating device configured to be disposed in a sunroof of an automobile includes a light modulation film layer, wherein the light modulation film layer includes a first anisotropic substrate, a second anisotropic substrate, and a liquid crystal layer, wherein each of the first and second anisotropic substrates has a first surface, wherein the first surfaces of the first and second anisotropic substrates face each other, wherein the liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first surfaces of the first and second anisotropic substrates, and wherein a slow axis of the first or second anisotropic substrate is disposed parallel to a width direction of the automobile.

摘要: A light modulating device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a light modulating device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a light modulation layer, and a retardation film, wherein each of the first and second substrates has a first surface and a second surface, wherein the first and second surfaces are disposed opposite to each other, wherein the first surfaces of the first and second substrates face each other, wherein the light modulation layer is disposed between the first and second substrates, wherein the retardation film is formed on the second surface of the first substrate or the second substrate, and wherein the retardation film has an in-plane phase difference in a range of 100 nm to 300 nm for light having a wavelength of 550 nm. The light modulating device can be control omnidirectional light leakage in a black mode while having excellent optical properties and mechanical properties.

摘要: A light modulating device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a light modulating device includes a first substrate having a first surface, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer or an adhesive layer formed on the first surface of the first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates; and a partition wall spacer, wherein the partition wall spacer maintains a distance between the first and second substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer is capable of being configured in a twist orientation, and wherein a ratio of thickness of the liquid crystal layer relative to a pitch of the liquid crystal layer in the twist orientation is more than 2.8 and 10 or less. The light modulating device can have a wide transmittance variable range and does not have problems, such as liquid crystal defects or visibility deterioration, while implementing low transmittance in a black mode.

摘要: An optical device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, an optical device includes a first outer substrate, a second outer substrate, a liquid crystal element film positioned between the first and second outer substrates, intermediate layers positioned between the first outer substrate and the liquid crystal element film and between the liquid crystal element film and the second outer substrate, respectively, wherein a sum of the total thicknesses of the intermediate layers is 1,600 μm or more. The optical device can secure structural stability and good quality uniformity by maintaining the cell gap of the liquid crystal element film properly, having excellent attachment force between the upper substrate and the lower substrate, and minimizing defects such as pressing or crowding in the bonding process of the outer substrates.

摘要: A substrate and a method for producing the same are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a substrate includes a base layer, a black layer formed on the base layer, and column spacers formed on the black layer, wherein a loss rate of spacers measured by a peel test is 15% or less. The substrate can have excellent adhesiveness of the spacer to the base layer or the black layer and ensuring appropriate darkening properties. The method can effectively produce such a substrate without adverse effects such as occurrence of foreign materials without separate treatment such as heat treatment.

摘要: A light modulation element that can vary between a bright transparent mode and a dark scattering mode is provided. The light modulation element has a first light modulation layer and a second light modulation layer comprising nematic liquid crystals and a dichroic dye in a scattering mode when a voltage is applied. The first light modulation layer and the second light modulation layer are disposed to overlap each other. The light modulation element has an improved contrast ratio and haze-variable characteristics, without precipitation of dichroic dyes and an increase in power consumption.
