    摘要: A light modulation element that can vary between a bright transparent mode and a dark scattering mode is provided. The light modulation element has a first light modulation layer and a second light modulation layer comprising nematic liquid crystals and a dichroic dye in a scattering mode when a voltage is applied. The first light modulation layer and the second light modulation layer are disposed to overlap each other. The light modulation element has an improved contrast ratio and haze-variable characteristics, without precipitation of dichroic dyes and an increase in power consumption.

    摘要: A transmittance-variable device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the transmittance-variable device includes a retardation film, a liquid crystal alignment film, and a liquid crystal layer configured to implement a twist orientation mode, wherein the retardation film, the liquid crystal alignment film and the liquid crystal layer are sequentially arranged, wherein a twist angle (T) is in a range of 50 degrees to 180 degrees, and wherein the smallest angle A between a slow axis of the retardation film and an alignment direction of the liquid crystal alignment film satisfies Equation 1 when a product (Δnd) of a refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and a thickness (d) is 0.7 μm or less, and satisfies Equation 2 when the product (Δnd) is more than 0.7 μm. The transmittance-variable device can be applied to various applications without causing problems such as a crosstalk phenomenon, a rainbow phenomenon or a mirroring phenomenon.

    摘要: A transmittance-variable device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the transmittance-variable device includes a first guest host layer, a second guest host layer, and a phase difference element disposed between the first and second guest host layers, wherein each of the first and second guest host layers comprise a liquid crystal host and a dichroic dye guest, and the liquid crystal hosts are capable of being horizontally oriented such that their optical axes are horizontal to each other. The transmittance-variable device can switch between a clear state and a black state, can exhibit high transmittance in the clear state and a high shielding rate in the black state, and can exhibit a high contrast ratio even at the inclination angle. Such a transmittance-variable device can be used in architectural or automotive materials, or eyewear such as goggles for augmented reality experience or sports, sunglasses or helmets.
