摘要: A liquid crystal device includes: an element substrate; a counter substrate disposed opposite to the element substrate; a sealing material disposed between the element substrate and the counter substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed on an inner side of the sealing material and containing liquid crystal. The element substrate includes an alignment film configured to align the liquid crystal and an ion-adsorbing first adsorption film disposed in contact with the sealing material. The alignment film includes a first vapor-deposited film and a second vapor-deposited film disposed between the first vapor-deposited film and the liquid crystal layer. The second vapor-deposited film and the first adsorption film include a column of which a long axis direction intersects a thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer. A thickness of the first adsorption film is thicker than a thickness of the second vapor-deposited film.

摘要: A light modulating device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a light modulating device includes a light modulation film layer, wherein the light modulation film layer includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer, wherein the liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first and second substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer and is capable of implementing twisted orientation, and wherein a K value is in a range of 0.15 to 0.4. The light modulation device can stably maintain designed optical properties even after an encapsulation process in which a pressure is applied, such as an autoclave process. The light modulating device can also stably maintain the orientation state of the light modulation layer while effectively securing adhesive force between upper and lower substrates.

摘要: A flexible optical element adopting liquid crystals (LCs) as the materials for realizing electrically tunable optics is foldable. A method for manufacturing the flexible element includes patterned photo-polymerization. The LC optics can include a pair of LC layers with orthogonally aligned LC directors for polarizer-free properties, flexible polymeric alignment layers, flexible substrates, and a module for controlling the electric field. The lens power of the LC optics can be changed by controlling the distribution of electric field across the optical zone.

摘要: An optical device includes a liquid crystal layer having a first plurality of liquid crystal molecules arranged in a first pattern and a second plurality of liquid crystal molecules arranged in a second pattern. The first and the second pattern are separated from each other by a distance of about 20 nm and about 100 nm along a longitudinal or a transverse axis of the liquid crystal layer. The first and the second plurality of liquid crystal molecules are configured as first and second grating structures that can redirect light of visible or infrared wavelengths.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal optical element includes a substrate, a first alignment control layer disposed on the substrate and comprising projections arranged at a predetermined pitch, and a first liquid crystal layer disposed on the first alignment control layer. The first liquid crystal layer comprises liquid crystal molecules which are aligned such that major axes of the liquid crystal molecules extend along the projections, respectively, and cured in a state where alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules are fixed. The first alignment control layer is formed of a crosslinkable liquid crystal polymer.

In some embodiments, a light modulating device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a light modulation layer, and a retardation film, wherein each of the first and second substrates has a first surface and a second surface, wherein the first and second surfaces are disposed opposite to each other, wherein the first surfaces of the first and second substrates face each other, wherein the light modulation layer is disposed between the first and second substrates, wherein the retardation film is formed on the second surface of the first substrate or the second substrate, and wherein the retardation film has an in-plane phase difference in a range of 100 nm to 300 nm for light having a wavelength of 550 nm. The light modulating device can be control omnidirectional light leakage in a black mode while having excellent optical properties and mechanical properties.
