Abstract: An imaging system for a vehicle includes an imaging sensor having four photosensing pixels of a sub-array, with one of (a) a red-light transmitting spectral filter disposed at a first photosensing pixel whereby the first pixel of each sub-array primarily senses red visible light and with an IR transmitting spectral filter disposed at the fourth photosensing pixel whereby the fourth pixel of each sub-array primarily senses infrared radiation, and (b) a red-light transmitting spectral filter disposed at a first photosensing pixel whereby the first pixel of each sub-array primarily senses red visible light and with an IR transmitting spectral filter disposed at a third photosensing pixel whereby the third pixel of each sub-array primarily senses infrared radiation. An image processor processes the output of each sub-array to determine at least one of an infrared component of the imaged scene and a visible light component of the imaged scene.

Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a rearward facing camera disposed at a rearward portion of a vehicle. With a trailer attached to the vehicle and rearward of the vehicle, a processor is operable to process captured images and, responsive at least in part to the processing, is operable to determine a plurality of trailer and vehicle-trailer interface parameters. The system is operable to calculate a calculated trailer angle based at least in part on calculations involving the parameters and a steering angle of the vehicle. Responsive to processing of images captured by the camera, the system is operable to determine a determined trailer angle of the trailer relative to a longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Responsive to the determined trailer angle and the calculated trailer angle, the system is operable to determine a degree of offset between the calculated trailer angle and the detected trailer angle.

Abstract: A method for dynamically calibrating a vehicular trailer angle detection system includes providing at least a rear camera at a rear portion of the vehicle. A trailer is hitched at the vehicle and the vehicle is driven forward while towing the trailer. The control determines an expected location of a portion of the trailer based on provided vehicle-trailer parameters as the vehicle is driven forward and towing the trailer. An actual location of the portion of the trailer is determined via processing at the control of captured image data as the equipped vehicle is driven forward and towing the trailer. The vehicular trailer angle detection system is calibrated responsive to determination, via processing at the control of captured image data as the equipped vehicle is driven forward and towing the trailer, that the determined actual location of the portion of the trailer is not at the determined expected location.

Abstract: A vehicular imaging system includes a camera with an imaging sensor. A first spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a first set of photosensing pixels, a second spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a second set of photosensing pixels, and each pixel of a third set of photosensing pixels senses at least near infrared radiation. Image data provided to the image processor includes output of the first set of photosensing pixels, output of the second set of photosensing pixels and output of the third set of photosensing pixels. The outputs of the photosensing pixels of the first and second sets of photosensing pixels are processed for a color camera function of the vehicle. The output of the photosensing pixels of the third set of photosensing pixels is processed for a night vision function of the vehicle.

Abstract: A method for assisting a driver of a vehicle towing a trailer includes providing a rear backup camera at a rear portion of the vehicle. A trailer having a trailer tow bar is attached to the trailer hitch of the vehicle. The vehicle is driven while towing the trailer and image data is captured via the rear backup camera and provided to a control at the vehicle. The image data captured while the vehicle is towing the trailer is processed at the control to determine an angle of the trailer tow bar relative to the vehicle. Responsive to determining the angle of the trailer tow bar relative to the vehicle, a degree of sway of the trailer relative to the vehicle is determined. Responsive to determination that the degree of sway is greater than a threshold degree of sway, an output is generated via the control.

Abstract: A vehicular imaging system includes a camera with an imaging sensor. A red-pass spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a first set of photosensing pixels, a blue-pass spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a second set of photosensing pixels, a green-pass spectral filter is disposed at each pixel of a third set of photosensing pixels, and each pixel of a fourth set of photosensing pixels senses at least near infrared radiation. A near infrared illumination source is operable to emit non-visible near infrared illumination to enhance nighttime viewing by the camera. Outputs of the pixels of the first, second and third sets of photosensing pixels are processed for at least one of (i) a lane departure warning system and (ii) an object detection system. Output of the photosensing pixels of the fourth set of photosensing pixels is processed for a night vision system.

Abstract: An imaging system suitable for use in a vehicle includes an imaging sensor having a two-dimensional array of photosensing pixels that includes at least one sub-array having a first photosensing pixel, a second photosensing pixel, a third photosensing pixel and a fourth photosensing pixel. Spectral filtering is disposed at the photosensing pixels whereby the first photosensing pixel primarily senses red visible light, the second photosensing primarily senses blue visible light, the third photosensing primarily senses green visible light and the fourth photosensing primarily senses infrared radiation. The imaging sensor is disposed at a vehicle and has a field of view external of the vehicle. An image processor is operable for processing image data captured by the imaging sensor.
