Abstract: A power tool includes an outer housing having a drive unit support portion and a handle portion, an inner housing positioned at least partially within the outer housing, and a drive unit positioned in the drive unit support portion, the drive unit including an output member. The power tool also includes a power screw mechanism with a nut fixed relative to the outer housing and a screw coupled for co-rotation with the output member and axially movable relative to the output member. The screw is in threaded engagement with the nut such that the screw moves axially in response to rotation of the screw relative to the nut. The power tool also includes a working assembly coupled to the inner housing for movement in response to axial movement of the screw.

Abstract: A power tool including a housing, a motor at least partially positioned within the housing, a driver blade extending along a driving axis, and a cam assembly including a cam that is configured to rotate about a rotational axis to move the driver blade. The cam includes a target that rotates with the cam. A sensor is configured to detect the target when the target is at a predetermined rotational position of the cam. A controller is connected to the motor and the sensor. The controller is configured to receive a signal from the sensor indicating that the target is at the predetermined rotational position of the cam, compare a motor parameter to a threshold value, and initiate a speed ramp down in response to the target being at the predetermined rotational position of the cam and the motor parameter being greater than or equal to the threshold value.

Abstract: Power tool methods and systems are provided for aligning a power tool to implement an angled cut in a workpiece. The power tool includes a first distance sensor and a second distance sensor. The power tool measures a first distance to the workpiece with the first distance sensor and a second distance to the workpiece with the second distance sensor. The power tool calculates an angle between the power tool and the workpiece based on the first and second distances, and indicates the angle via an angle output indicator of the power tool. The power tool may measure an angle between the power tool and the workpiece using a proximate edge and a distal edge of the workpiece, and indicate whether the power tool maintains a correct angle as it traverses a cut through the workpiece from the proximate edge to the distal edge.

Abstract: A power tool includes a motor having an output shaft, an extensible member driven by the motor, a working assembly movable in response to contact with a distal end of the extensible member, a first sensor configured to detect a home position of the extensible member, a second sensor configured to detect rotation of the motor output shaft, and a controller in electrical communication with the first and second sensors. The controller is configured to drive the motor output shaft in a first rotational direction a predetermined number of revolutions counted by the second sensor, thereby displacing the extensible member from the home position. The controller is also configured to drive the motor output shaft in an opposite, second rotational direction to thereby return the extensible member until the home position is detected by the first sensor.

The power tool also includes a ball screw mechanism having a nut supported at least partially within the inner housing and a screw coupled to the nut for relative axial displacement therewith in response to relative rotation between the screw and the nut. Torque from the output shaft is applied to one of the nut and the screw to cause the relative rotation. The handle portion exerts a reaction torque on the inner housing in response to the relative rotation between the nut and screw to prevent the inner housing from rotating relative to the outer housing.
