Abstract: A computer implemented method of authenticating one or more parties to a transaction is provided. A first party to the transaction is registered with an information service trusted by the first party and a second party. The information service holds credential data for the first party as a result of this registration. Location data for the first party is provided to the information service. When the second party wishes to transact with the first party, the information service provides the location data for the first party and the credential data for the first party to the second party. A suitable information service is also provided, together with a mobile point of sale terminal and a user mobile device for use in this approach to transaction authentication.
