摘要:
In a retrievable packer adapted for service under high temperature and high pressure operating conditions, the packer is purpose-designed as a cut-to-release packer. That is, this retrievable packer has no built-in release mechanism. An internal cinch slip is used to retain the packer in its set position and thereby prevent the accidental release of the packer. The only way it can be released is by severing the mandrel. The cut point is opportunely designed so that the mandrel is severed in a precise location such that not only is the packer released, but all the packer and tail pipe are then retrievable as a unit. The primary advantage of a cut-to-release packer is that it can withstand extreme tubing loads occurring during production and stimulation.

In a retrievable packer adapted for service under high temperature and high pressure operating conditions, improved retention of the packer in the wellbore is achieved by use of an inventive slip and wedge system, wherein the cones on the wedges are spaced a progressively slightly greater distance apart from their corresponding slip cones, from the centermost slip cone to the outermost slip cone. This forces the center of the slip to be loaded first. As greater forces are exerted on the wedges from end to end, the wedge will deform slightly and the next cone of the wedge will make contact with its matching portion of slip. Thereby, as the wedges are loaded higher and higher, more wedge cones come into bearing contact with the slip. Further, a barrel slip is used, to provide a uniform circumferential distribution of forces. This design effectively allows initial setting of the packer with very little slip tooth contact area. This permits the slip to quickly get a good grip into the casing wall. Subsequent higher loading brings more and more slip teeth to bear and prevents overstressing the casing.

A high circulation rate packer (50) for establishing a sealing and gripping engagement with a well casing (34) disposed in a wellbore (32). The packer (50) includes a packer mandrel (54), a seal assembly (72) slidably disposed about the packer mandrel (54) that has a running position and a radially expanded sealing position and a cover (74) that is slidably disposed relative to the packer mandrel (54). The cover (74) has a running position wherein the cover is disposed about the seal assembly (72) and a retracted position wherein the cover (74) is at least partially removed from about the seal assembly (72).

The present inventions contemplate an improved well tool actuator and method that does not require more expensive downhole equipment and can be utilized with limited actuation pressures. According to the improved well tool actuator and method of the present inventions, a fluid pressure intensifier is placed in the well and coupled to the downhole device to be manipulated. By using a fluid pressure intensifier the actuation pressure can be increased to a pressure sufficient to operate or manipulate the downhole device without the necessity of increasing the tubing pressure. According to the present invention the actuation pressures supplied by the intensifier can exceed the safe operating rated pressures of the well tubing and equipment. The well tool actuators of the present invention are self-contained in that they are powered from the tubing fluid pressure itself without a high-pressure hydraulic or electrical connection to the surface. According to the present inventions, subterranean hydraulically actuated well tools can be actuated at higher pressures than the supplied pressure. Fluid pressure intensifiers circuits can be assembled in and carried downhole with the actuation tool and removed once the actuation process is complete. Also, fluid pressure intensifier circuits can be assembled as a part of the well tool and operated remotely.

A detector structure is used to sense and log the joints in a downhole jointed tubular structure, such as a well bore casing or production tubing, in a subterranean well. The detector is moved through the jointed tubular structure on an elongated positioning member, representatively a slick line, through a series of joints to be logged. As the detector passes through each joint it electromagnetically senses the joint and responsively generates an electric output signal. The output signal is used to momentarily cause a drag structure portion of the detector, in cooperation with the interior side surface of the tubular structure, to momentarily create a detectable tension change in the elongated positioning member. Alternatively, a pyrotechnic or compressed gas device may be used to create the detectable changes in response to the generation of the electrical output signals. These tension changes, which may be either tension increases or tension decreases, serve as mechanical output signals transmitted upwardly through the positioning member, and may be plotted on a strip chart recorder at the surface to record the joint locations and correlate them to the lowered depth odometer readings of the detection system. Using this joint detection apparatus, correlative joint logging procedures may be carried out for tool setting purposes without the necessity of utilizing an electrical conductor line.

Apparatus and methods are provided for anchoring within tubular structures and releasing therefrom. In a described embodiment, a packer includes multiple debris barriers, which are deployed when slips of the packer are radially outwardly extended. The debris barriers prevent debris from settling about the slips, thereby enhancing convenient retrieval of the packer. Use of the debris barriers may also permit control over how the slips are extended.

A system for, and method of deploying a selected one of a plurality of tools into a subterranean well and a well employing the system or the method. In one embodiment, the system includes: (1) a tool selector capable of receiving each of the plurality of tools into a separate location thereof and placing a selected one of the plurality of tools proximate an entrance to the subterranean well in response to a tool selection command and (2) a tool displacement mechanism, couplable to the selected one of the plurality of tools, that causes the selected one of the plurality of tools to enter and traverse at least a portion of the subterranean well.

A gas lift valve mandrel especially adapted for mounting on reeled tubing used in a well including a mandrel body in at least two sections comprising a gas lift valve adapter and a clamp which are secured together around the tubing, the adapter including structure for mounting a gas lift valve and flow passages communicating into the gas lift valve and into a bore through the mandrel through which the tubing extends, the flow passage in the adapter communicating with a port in the tubing when the mandrel is mounted on the tubing and further including a seal in the adapter for sealing with the tubing around the port into the tubing. An alternate form of the mandrel includes a pipe plug hole and a pipe plug in the adapter for access to the flow passage in the adapter to drill the port into the tubing when the mandrel is mounted on the tubing during the mounting procedure. The mandrel is readily secured on the tubing at desired locations as the tubing is run into a well.
