A computer-implemented method of updating a system of customized software is provided. The method includes receiving an update request and collecting contextual information relative to the system of customized software. A query is generated for updates applicable to the system of customized software based on the contextual information. A query response is received indicative of at least one applicable update. A selection relative to the at least one applicable update is received. At least one update is selectively applied based on the selection.

A user interface provides mechanisms for a user to select resources from a plurality of different groups, across clients. Updates from all of the selected resources are aggregated and displayed to the user, across clients, in an integrated view.

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to modularizing and embedding modules across a variety of web applications. More specifically, the present disclosure provides an adaptive UI module to web application servers that adapts its format upon evaluating an environment of the web application and receiving a user request for supplemental information. For example, a single adaptive UI module may be used across a variety of web applications, with a variety of requests for supplemental content from within each web application, to generate multiple, unique formatted UI modules. In this way, a single adaptive UI module may generate formatted UI modules specific to the formatting requirements of each requesting web application, with supplemental content related to each unique user request from within each web application.

A method performed by a computing system comprises accessing group subscription data that is associated with a user and identifies a plurality of different groups, each group being hosted by a corresponding client system. The group subscription data indicates that the user is subscribed to receive resource updates from the plurality of different groups. An aggregated set of resource updates is generated by aggregating resource updates associated with resources in the plurality of different groups. An integrated view renders the aggregated set of resource updates and includes an action user input mechanism representing a computing action to be performed in a corresponding one of the groups associated with at least one resource update. Based on user actuation of the action user input mechanism, a machine instruction instructs the client system, that hosts the corresponding group, to perform the computing action.

Organization and discovery of a communication is provided based on crowd sourcing. A communication application initiates operations to categorize a communication in response to a detected input to categorize the communication with a hashtag. Hashtag suggestions based on the input are generated and presented. The communication is categorized based on the hashtag selected from one of the hashtag suggestions or a new hashtag. The hashtag is presented in association with the communication.

Architecture for a communication system providing a user experience that includes a conversation environment and a meeting embodiment in a single application. A navigation menu enables the user to select between multiple communications environments, including a conversations environment. Multiple conversation threads can be accessed in various conversation formats, including formats associated with instant messaging, group chat, a telephone call, voice, video, email, application sharing, or an online meeting. A meeting environment can be navigated for accessing one or more meetings. Other suitable communications environments can be also be navigated from the same navigation menu, besides the conversation environment and meeting environment. The communications system and application also includes a selection pane for displaying a list of the conversation threads or meetings, depending on the environment selected by the user. A preview pane can also be included in the communications system.

Communication services enable two or more users to communicate electronically using multiple modes of communication. Conversations between groups of users are common, where one or more communications may be exchanged repeatedly over a period of time. In some scenarios, a communication desired to be conveyed by a participant in a conversation may be a simple endorsement, such as receipt acknowledgment and various levels of social activity actions and/or gestures, which may be useful for other participants of the conversation to see as well. Provision of endorsement indications in communication environments may enable the participant to select an endorsement for a communication or a conversation without explicitly replying to the communication or conversation, where an endorsement indication based on the selected endorsement may be transmitted and displayed to the other participants of the conversation through an endorsement module of the communication service.

Embodiments present a common access mechanism that can be used by one or more applications to access different data sources in a storage layer and have data stored in the data sources returned to the one or more applications. The common access mechanism can be presented by a data model that is implemented by a query and aggregation layer of an extensible querying/scheduling system. At least some individual data sources store data in different formats and have their own specific access mechanisms of which the one or more applications are unaware. In embodiments, the data model creates one or more data providers that are individually associated with individual data sources and knowledgeable of how to access data stored in an associated data source. At least some of the data providers receive queries for data and execute the queries using a different thread than the data model. At least some of the data providers are creatable on a thread that is a same thread as the data model.

Various embodiments provide a Web browser that employs a relevancy algorithm to make an educated guess as to the likelihood of a user's intended destination when the user begins to enter text into a browser's address bar. In one or more embodiments, the relevancy algorithm employs various parameters and assigns weights to the parameters to arrive at a collection of suggestions to provide to the user. By using various rules, associated weightings, and the relevancy algorithm, relevant suggestions can be provided to a user to facilitate their navigation activities.
