Abstract: A display device includes a substrate having a display portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the display portion, and a plurality of pixels formed in the display portion. The plurality of pixels have a switching element, a pixel electrode connected to the switching element, a counter electrode, and a light emitting material layer arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode, respectively, and the counter electrode is arranged in common for the display portion. A bank layer of organic material is arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode and is formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion, with each pixel being divided by the bank layer in the display portion, and the bank layer having at least one opening in the peripheral portion.
