In accordance with the illustrative embodiment, an introducing tube, such as a catheter, sheath, or the like is inserted into the vascular system and advanced beyond the aortic arch. The cardiac-assist device is then inserted into the tube, advanced through it, and deployed from its distal end. In some embodiments, the diameter of the cardiac-assist device expands when it deploys from the distal end of the tube.

    摘要: Time domain viscometry is disclosed in the context of a thrombectomy system, wherein the aspirate composition may span saline (≈1 cP) and blood (≈4 cP) to blood/thrombus mixtures (˜10 cP to ˜10,000 cP) to a clog (>10,000 cP). An objective of a suction thrombectomy system is to aspirate low-viscosity blood at low suction levels concomitantly with aspirating high-viscosity thrombus at high suction levels. Time domain viscometry comprises measuring the time required for fluids of differing viscosities to flow into an elastically deformed conduit. One or more fluid standards (e.g., saline, blood, etc.) may be used for in-situ calibration of the viscometer. Ratiometric analysis of the resulting measurements permits time domain differential viscometry wherein the viscosity of an unknown fluid is determined with respect to a fluid of known viscosity. Viscometric thrombectomy systems are enabled to discriminate between blood and thrombus and adjust the aspiration rate accordingly.

    摘要: Thrombectomy systems are disclosed that utilize a knowledge base comprising intra-procedural and inter-procedural (i.e., historical) measurement data that is correlated to deterministic events that predicate each measurement. Each thrombectomy procedure is thereby a compendium of cause and effect experimentation; experimental data are retained, in addition to being utilized intra-procedurally to determine future experimental configurations (deterministic events). Herein, experimental data comprise variable measurement data of intensive physical properties of the aspirate within the catheter (e.g., viscosity=10 cP, % thrombus=15%, thrombus load=25%, etc.). Knowledge-based thrombectomy systems engender procedure standardization across multiple thrombectomy systems, facilities and clinicians by standardizing the sequence of intra-procedural, deterministic events. Some embodiments feature a plurality of subsystems (experimental factors) such as Liquid Column Oscillator, Harmonic Oscillator, frequency, aspiration rate, infusion rate, mechanical or hydrodynamic lance, catheter position and/or configuration, etc.; these subsystems being operable at a plurality of setpoints (experimental levels). A knowledge base is compiled that identifies and exploits efficacious experimental configurations and abandons or modifies inefficacious experimental configurations.

    摘要: An apparatus for releasing excessive pressure from a cylinder of an internal combustion engine comprises a sealing element inserted into a passageway that extends from an internal surface of the cylinder through the engine block or cylinder head to end at a point of ambient air pressure. The sealing element is thermally responsive and will release to cause the passageway to form a vent passage between the cylinder and the ambient air upon the occurrence of any one of a number of conditions of excessive pressure and temperature in the cylinder.
