    摘要: A well logging system is provided which simultaneously employs a conventional deep induction log and a radio frequency dielectric log to differentiate similar high resistivity fresh water and oil prospective zones. A 16 megahertz radio frequency dielectric induction logging system which is responsive to both conductivity and permittivity of the earth derives a signal primarily related to both of these properties. A conventional 20 kilohertz deep induction system is used to derive a signal which is primarily a function of conductivity alone. When combined in accordance with predetermined relationships according to the invention the two measurements can be used to find oil prospective zones.

    摘要: A wireline logging system for measuring formation resistivity includes a longitudinal housing having three transmitters and three receivers arranged at measured distances on the housing, with about four feet between the outermost ends of the array. The transmitters are operated at three different frequencies, with each receiver receiving all three frequencies. The output of each receiver is the three received frequencies, which is amplified and fed to a mixer. A local oscillator frequency is also fed to each mixer. The output from each mixer of the three received frequencies mixed with a local frequency is passed through a filter to output one of the three received signals at a lower frequency. The frequency mix is arranged so that the output of each of the filters is at a common frequency. The filtered outputs from pairs of the filters are then passed to phase comparators and/or amplitude ratio determining devices to provide signals indicative of formation resistivity which are then passed to the surface on the wireline.

    摘要: The salt content of a fluid in a pipeline or container in petroleum producing or refining operations is determined by obtaining a measure of water cut of an oil-water-free gas fluid mixture. The conductivity of the fluid is measured by radio frequency (RF) induction techniques, while the density of the fluid is measured and related to the liquid phase fraction of the fluid using gamma radiation techniques. The conductivity and liquid phase fraction are then used to determine salt content of the liquid phase.

    摘要: A dipmeter in a well logging tool includes conventional type circuitry which senses the angle of inclination of the logging tool and an azimuth angle. The dipmeter also includes a non-conventional type bed detection sub-system. The bed detection sub-system includes at least three radio frequency oscillators having their coils mounted on pads of the logging tool. As the logging tool moves through the borehole, the electrical current passing through the coils on the pads causes lines of flux to circulate through the earth formation. Eddy currents are developed for each group of fluxlines created by a coil. As the earth formation changes, the eddy current changes accordingly causing a grid current in the oscillator to change. Portion of the grid currents are transmitted uphole and are recorded so that the interface between the types of earth's formation may be recorded with its relationship to the particular borehole and thus used to determine the dip of different earth formation beds.

    摘要: Radio frequency electromagnetic fields are used to excite earth formations in the vicinity of a well borehole. The total field amplitude at a single coil receiver and at a dual coil receiver are detected and signals representative thereof are combined according to a predetermined relationship to obtain the relative permittivity and resistivity of the earth formations. By combining the measured permittivity with porosity measurements from another source according to predetermined relationships, the water saturation S.sub.w and residual oil saturation ROS may be determined and logged as a function of borehole depth.

    摘要: An electrode insulated from and mounted to the outside of a drill collar in a drill string positioned in a borehole is used for measuring formation spontaneous potential. A current measuring device, such as an ammeter, is connected through a varible ammeter resistor and a switch between the electrode and the drill collar. The ammeter measures current flow from the formation along the walls of the borehole to the drill string to determine the spontaneous potential of the formation at various points along the borehole while it is being drilled. The switch in the ammeter circuit is interrupted at a pre-selected rate and the ammeter current signal is connected through a lock-in amplifier to cancel random noise in the signal and produce an accurate measurement of the very small currents flowing between the electrode and the drill collar. The currents are indicative of spontaneous potentials in the formation. The value of the ammeter resistor is varied and the frequency of closure of the switch is swept over a pre-selected range to measure the time constant of the polarization of the formation along the borehole.
