Abstract: A method includes receiving one or more data files that have one or more user-selected input parameters associated with one or more electrical devices in an industrial system, one or more output parameters associated with the electrical devices, one or more input/output parameter tags, a frequency or a condition associated with data transmission for each electrical device, or a combination thereof. The electrical devices may communicate via a first communication network based on the International Electrotechnical Commission 61850 standard, and the controller may communicate via a different communication network. The method also includes automatically programming the controller to control one or more operations of each electrical device based on the data files and transmitting the data files to a gateway device communicatively coupled to the controller along a backplane of a chassis system. The gateway device is automatically configured based on the one or more data files.

Abstract: Provided herein are systems, methods, and software for preserving timestamp data in an industrial automation environment. In one implementation, one or more computer-readable storage media having program instructions stored thereon to preserve timestamp data in an industrial automation environment, wherein the program instructions, when executed by a computing system, direct the computing system to at least receive, at a controller, event data of an event from an electronic device, wherein the event data comprises a status of the event and the timestamp of the event. The program instructions also direct the computing system to determine an identification value based on the event data and load the status of the event, the timestamp of the event, and the identification value to a queue within the controller. The timestamp of the event includes the timestamp transmitted from the electronic device.

Abstract: Techniques to facilitate automatic discovery of industrial assets and associated data in an industrial automation environment are disclosed herein. In at least one implementation, a computing system iteratively scans a communication network to automatically detect at least one industrial device on the communication network. The computing system determines a unique identifier of a device type associated with the at least one industrial device detected on the communication network. The computing system determines an identity object for the industrial device and maps the identity object to the unique identifier of the device type associated with the industrial device. Based on the identity object for the industrial device, the computing system establishes communication with the industrial device on the communication network and receives operational data from the industrial device. The computing system processes the operational data received from the industrial device to generate a device profile for the industrial device.

Abstract: Provided herein are techniques related to an industrial system that may have a plurality of industrial automation devices, a database that has a plurality of location datasets that correspond to the plurality of industrial automation devices, and a monitoring system that may communicate with the industrial automation devices via a network and the database. The monitoring system may send a first request to the industrial automation devices in the industrial system to identify an industrial automation device having an active maintenance status. The active maintenance status may be indicative of a maintenance request for the industrial automation device. The monitoring system may send a second request to the database for a location dataset associated with the industrial automation device, generate a visualization that includes the active maintenance status and the location dataset associated with the industrial automation device, and display the visualization via an electronic display.

Abstract: Provided herein are systems, methods, and software for calculating energy effectiveness in an industrial automation system. In one implementation, a computing system is directed to at least acquire production energy information indicating the amount of energy used by a machine during a processing period to process one or more parts and acquire process energy information indicating the sum of energy used by the machine during the processing period to process the one or more parts and to not process any parts. The computing system also acquires a total number of parts expected to be processed during the processing period and a total number of good parts processed during the processing period. An overall equipment energy effectiveness is calculated based on a ratio of the production energy information to the process energy information and based on a ratio of the total number of good parts to the total number of parts.

Abstract: The present technology relates to health metrics corresponding to industrial automation devices and a user experience for configuring calculation devices to produce the health metrics. Health metrics of a device can be produced by obtaining performance metrics of the device and contextualizing the performance metrics based on contextualization information. The health metrics can be categorized based on applying rule sets to the health metrics. Contextualization and application of rule sets can be selectively performed by one or more calculation devices, such as one or more servers, industrial devices, user devices, or the like based on configuration settings. The calculation devices can obtain the performance metrics, operations, and rule sets to produce the health metrics for instantiation on a user interface.

Abstract: The present technology relates to health metrics corresponding to industrial automation devices and a user experience for viewing and configuring health metrics. Health metrics of a device can be produced by obtaining performance metrics of the device and contextualizing the performance metrics based on contextualization information. The health metrics can be categorized based on applying rule sets to the health metrics. The rule sets can be selectively applied to the health metrics based on a type of a respective health metric. The health metrics and health metric categories can be instantiated in a user interface of a user device based on a request for device health information from the user device.

Abstract: Systems and methods described herein may involve an industrial network device that performs an operation based on symbolic data received via an input terminal. The systems and methods may involve processing circuitry coupled via an output terminal to the input terminal. The processing circuitry may provide a virtualized control system communicatively coupled to the industrial network device via the output terminal, receive an event notification from a first container provided by one or more computing devices external to the industrial automation system, operate the virtualized control system to expose the event notification via a symbolic common industrial protocol (CIP) namespace to provide the symbolic data to the input terminal based on the event notification, and transmit the symbolic data corresponding to the virtualized control system via the one or more input terminals to the industrial network device.
